We packed the truck and headed on out to go camping this morning. When we signed up for our favorite campsite, it was hot sunny and humid, just the way we like it. However, by the time we got to our favorite camp site, the lightning and thunder started. That's okay, we'll just wait it out.
When the sun came out, we got out of the truck, intending to unload our camping stuff. That's when I noticed that both of our rear tires were flat.
How does that happen? I've had flat tires before but two at exactly the same time?
We do have an air compressor, spare tire and Fix-A-Flat. I hooked the air compressor up to one tire, it took a while, 'bout 45 minutes, and when I disconnected the compressor I could hear it hissing. In the other tire, I used the Fix-A-Flat and ran the compressor on it for 'bout 10 minutes. By then the storm was back and we were getting rained on.
We managed to limp on home and stopped at the local repair shop. The truck's 13 years old and since we bought the truck used and don't know the history of the tires we're gonna go ahead and replace all four tires. Maybe they're old and delaminating from the inside? Dunno.
We limped the truck home, unloaded the camping gear, then My wife followed me back to the repair shop in our little Toyota Yaris.
If it turns out to be nice tomorrow, we're gonna see if that little Toyota Yaris can make it to our campsite.
We paid for it and we'd still like to spend some time in the woods.

As a teenager, I borrowed my Mom's car, a Pinto station wagon (yes, I have no pride) for a camping trip to Western NM. Fortunately I was with other folks with other vehicles. I tore up a couple of tires on the rough flint roads.

We pulled all the wheels off the Pinto, threw them in the back of a pickup, and headed to Glenwood, NM. The garage there had no tires the right size, and called up and down from Silver City to Reserve. Nobody in that part of the country had those small 13" tires.
While we were there a Forest Ranger came in and wondered if they were the same size as his wife's Toyota. He had just put new tires on her car, and had the old ones in his garage. Yep, they fit. I gave him $8 each for the 5, and the garage charged me $2 each to mount and balance.

When I got home to El Paso, Mom was peeved that she now had different tires, but that didn't keep my folks from driving on them until they traded that car in.

Hi snubbyfan,

Keeping my fingers crossed for an easy trip to the campsite in the Yaris. Have Fun!!

I always like to think when I have day like that, when everything that could possibly go wrong does, best thing to do is sit back, calm down, and ride it out, because you’re getting all the bad luck out of the way.

Better days ahead for sure, Snubby.:)

13 yr old trk bought used first thing to do is some PM on the the thing.

Any used vehicle purchased always gets new oil/filter tune up hoses belts and if questionable at all new tires.

Bought a used 08 P/U bout a yr ago did all of above the next day.

Better to know what ya got than to wonder and find out at the camp or some other lonely spot.

Hope you at least get to go camping still.
