Things I learned from the History Channel this weekend

We don't get the History Channel where I live so I only watch it while traveling. However this weekend my wife and I were traveling so I watched a show on Washington during the Revolution.

I learned that: Rifling was invented by the American Colonist and Bayonets were a new weapon introduced during the Revolution.

Somehow I don't miss the History Channel that much now.

I learned that duct tape was used to seal the first nuke at the Trinity test. Seems nobody had the grapes to try and solder the thing.

Watched some show on that channel over the week end and I saw a world war 1 British soldier carrying a M1 Carbine.


Oh well after watching the so called history channel it appears as long as a soldier is carrying some sort of weapon that is all they require to do the show. I only commented on the Carbine as to me that was a new goof up that I had not seen before.

I always DVR anything on Hitler channel so I don't need to sit through the furiously pounding dramatic drumming on trailers for the "stuff" they air. "Axmen?" "Truckers?" Seriously?

That's not as bad as the G.Is in: Anzio, were all carrying Lee-Enfields, in the movie of the same name. ONE gun mistake I can take, but not dozens or hundreds.

Anyone watched any of the current "Oak Island" or "Hunting Hitler" series? All use the same HC plot formula - lots of suspense building, but it never results in any substantiated firm conclusions. Just like all of the HC UFO and Bigfoot series.

Well the Pennsylvania Long Rifle (Yes, Pennsylvania Long Rifle, not Kentucky Long Rifle that you Kentuckians like to take credit for!) was created by German immigrants in Pennsylvania and implemented throughout the Revolutionary War. It did give the the Colonists an edge over the British. However, rifling was invented by Germans several centuries before the War. It's just that the American Revolutionary War was the first time it was greatly implemented in battle.
