Back about 13 or 14 years ago, I was walking around in the woods in central Maine, when I came upon this collection of old cars. Don't know how many years they have been sitting, but there was no dirt road, just a foot path, and trees growing up through some of the cars. It was pretty cool, and just goes to show you never know what you might find in old farm country. Thought some of you old car nuts might get a kick out of these pics.

First set of suicide doors I ever saw were on an abandoned car in the woods.

Once found a plane crash sight, all the wreckage was piled up, so I knew I wasn't the first to find it.

Coolest thing I found was a huge witches caldron with 4 little legs. It was as big as the cannibals caldrons in the cartoons. Unfortunately it had frozen and split in half.

Found a chain drive Mack once.

Also found a car that sunk into the mud so far that only the roof was showing, then realized it was a roof somebody cut off. LOL!

Eeriest thing I've found is a set of cement stairs with lylacs growing on either side, but no house. Small hand print in the cement. Made me sad.

My aunt Janie, who had been a Navy aircraft mechanic in the Pacific in WWII, collected and rebuilt cars for about 50 years after the war. When she finally sold out her parts grqveyard, there were over 40 acres of cheek-to-jowl oldies to haul off. Every road in her part of the county was gridlocked with car haulers and trailers from all over the country.

I bought my 1942 Packard 120 convertible from her; no longer have the car, but it was the real deal.

At one point, she had a '37 Buick with a hellacious big engine. Daytimes, we hauled grain and hay wagons with it; summer nights a couple of times a week 'til all the locals were burned out, the hired hand would race with it on the blacktop roads and just about always won if the run was over 10 miles and he could get past its slowness off the starting line.

I wonder if they are still there? Someone would love to have them for parts if nothing else. And a couple of those bodies didn't look too bad years ago...wonder if anyone claimed them? Do a custom chassis, crate motor, etc., etc.

I kinda hate to see those old cars like that...anywhere. Knowing it'd take some serious money to bring 'em back, but still...kinda sad.

I was running north on SHWY 6 between Houston and Waco taking pics of old houses for a collection I dubbed "This Old House", which I'm pretty sure I posted here before but I didn't include these as I was saving them for a possible collection to be dubbed "This Old Car"

I never got around to it so I guess I'll just stick em in here with this'n. ;)
