Thinking of a 4506....any thoughts??

645 / 4506

I have a 645 that I've had for about 15 years - LOVE IT. Had Wayne Novak put on 3 dot, wide notch nite sights. A few years ago was shooting with a good friend and ran one of his handloads thru it. KABOOM - he had double charged a round with Bullseye. It blew the mag out the bottom, I about filled my skivvies, but that was it. No harm done to gun or operator. Am acquiring spare parts for it in advance of SHTF. Just acquired a 4506 with the Ace Custon 45 super conversion - can hardly wait to shoot that bad boy. It will become my hog gun and bear bumper. Am now trolling for a 5906. Don't really need it as I have 2 M&P's and a Kahr, but what does need have to do with it. Semper Fi.

Nothing at all really....I've been wanting a square guard 5906 w/adjustable rear & night sights to go w/my gen 3.
Once you get one of a certain model, you then want all the different variations of it.,well at least that's what has happened to me:)
I've tried to carry them but they are just too heavy.I'm only 5'6" & 175# on a good day. They pull my pants off trying to carry concealed, SO I have my PK380 for my EDC & carry a second mag. Not to mention, the PK is totally replaceable any day of the week whereas my others aren't.
I keep 'em all in a weekly rotation , sometimes twice a week:D
My next pistol purchases will be...... gen 2 5906, a gen 2 & 3 6906 sub compact, BG380 (backup EDC) & I'd like a P22 to keep my PK380 company. Don't like my Sig "Mosquito" very much which is another reason I want the P22.

Next rifle buy will be the new M&P AR15 sport & possibly another shotgun.

Aside from all that, I make it a point to buy ammo 1-2 times weekly & keep my boxes full. Re-loads scare me. I take my brass to the scrap yard. I've seen too many irreplaceable pistols get dead quick from reloads.

Go to Gunbroker.com . You'll find your 5906 real quick.
Just take into consideration the s/h & FFL transfer costs when bidding.
For the 4566 & 4506's...we all got lucky on that deal! Will NEVER part w/mine (or any Smiths for that matter:-)

I have run a few hundred rounds through the 4506-1 I purchased from Cabelas last month.

An absolute tack driver. It is simply the most accurate S&W 45 I have shot. Yes, that includes my PC Shorty 45 MKII and CQB prototype. Much better accuracy than the 4506 no dash I owned previously.

It placed American Eagle 230 ball into a 1.5" ragged hole at 15 yards unsupported. Made me look real good!! :)

Unlike all my other S&W 45's, I'm leaving the factory OEM Xenoy grips on this one. I seem to shoot it better with those than the Hogue rubber I customarily place on my S&W pistols.

The usual 100% reliability of a S&W 3rd gen pistol too. Unlike current offerings from its manufacturer it also looks great! ;) Regards 18DAI.

After reading this thread my fever came back. The doctor prescribed a 4506. Just called in to Cabela's, talked with Sheldon and have a 4506 headed my way. Oooo the chills are gettin worse. Maybe I'd better get another!

I love both my 4566-2 & 4506 I got from Cabela's.
They are both unreal. Both are sighted in dead on. Even at 50 FT I'm shootin' bulls & staying in the black w/tight groups at a moderate pull.Right in there with my 5906:)
Since I started this post, I've been on a major buying spree.
The fever hit me hard. Almost needed intervention.....but have filled every pistol shelf & every rifle slot in the safe, SO no more room.
If I bought a new safe, my wife would stick me in it!

Our department issue sidearm was a 4506-1, and I was the last to go kicking and screaming to turn it in for a Glop 22.

I don't have a 4506, but do have an excellent 4566, thats getting alot of range time, and giving some of the 1911 shooters around me fits with its accuracy, and reliability.

I live near Rapid City and picked up a 4506 this week,so heres some info I can pass on about the batch.

If anyone here is one the fence about getting a 4506 from the Rapid City Cabella's nows the time to get one.

According to their senior employee they got the batch from a department in Idaho back in March, and are now down to 20 as of last week from an initial stock of 60. Theres 4 on display now I eyeballed , and none of them look all that bad or worse for wear. All 4 I saw on display have the factory grips, and one in the gun library case has Novak sights instead of the adjustable.

For less than $500 its a bargain. If anyone here is on the fence, better make a decision fast because probably next month there wont be any left. The sales guys were buying them at full price( they have to wait 30 days to use their discount).

That's it, I'm not hangin' out w/you guys anymore......just ordered a 4506 & a 4516.

Now making my collection.......
19-1
66-1
645
4506
4516
5906 and (hope to get at auction) 5903
:D

You think you got it bad??!!

I bought a 4506-1 about 2yrs ago and love it. I have never had any type of malfuntion with it and has digested over 1k rounds.
The only downside is the weight, especially if you plan on carrying it for an extended amount of time.
