Thinking of a 4506....any thoughts??

I had a no dash 4506 back in the late 80's early 90's. It was the first new handgun I ever bought. Like a dummy I sold it to a friend when I bought my first 1911. I have been looking for the right replacement ever since. Great gun. I would jump on one for that price if I was you.

HA_HAAAAAAAAAAA...sucks doesn't it??
Once it gets ahold of you, it's all over with.

Yeah I got the bug no doubt. I bought a excellent condition 5906 a couple of months ago and I have a LNIB 3913. My family is growing.:D

I bought my 4506 no dash in 1990 sent it to Robar for NP3 and carried it on duty for 10 years then went plastic for a while and now just bought the gun back from my friend had it completely dissassembled and cleaned out, re-springed, and put new XS big dot sights on it. The only problem was the trigger had some hairline cracks so a new trigger was installed and she is ready to rock and roll.

I will be carrying it again next week as soon as my Safariland holster shows up. The NP3 finish is perfect and the gun shoots great, yes she is heavy but a reliable beast and i plan on carrying it until i retire in another 13 years or so.

bought a new unfired CS-45 to carry as well. She is at Birdsongs now for the Naval Warfare Green-T with Black-T controls treatment should have her back in a couple weeks.

Price for yours seems ok but you dont know what your getting until it shows up since they are LEO trade ins. If you do get one have a gunsmith take it completely apart clean it, inspect it and re-spring it should cost you about $ 150.00 bucks, if the finish is beat up send it to Robar for NP3 or Walter Birdsongs and you will have a like new gun that will last longer than most of us will live.

SHE'S HOME!!!

Went with the 645. Brought her home today. Stopped at the range for a little "foreplay":D I'm a happy camper. 50 rounds, not one issue aside from having only 1 clip. BUT, on my way out, I found x2 MINT OEM S&W 645 clips on the shelf for $15ea. Snagged 'em both.

So here's a pic of my 5906 & 645. A wonderful sight!;)

Stockbridge Huh? I am in the town just north of you. I shoot at the rifle club in Williamston. Maybe one day we can get together and shoot some.

As for the 4506, BUY BUY BUY! Heck buy ANY 3rd gen you can get your hands on! They are among the best pistols ever built, and they are all tanks. I think my collection is up to 11 or 12 now, and I keep buying every good buy I see.

-Williamston, wow what a small world. I grew up there for a good chunk of childhood, stationed in Bahrain right now, and returning to Colorado when I leave here. Where is the range you shoot at, I don't remember there being a range when I lived there (left in 92)

Not to hijack the thread too much but Capital City Rifle club just north of Williamston. Its been there for many many years. Very nice range. And to stay on topic, I used to shoot my 4506 there before I got rid of it. ...

Just got my 4506 and 4516-1 from Cabela's today. Rod picked out two excellent condition ones for me. They both have night sights too. I broke them down and I cant believe how clean they look inside. He said they are going fast. Great guy to order from by the way. I will try to shoot them this weekend.

Yes he is. Did the same for me. He was picking 'em out as we spoke.
I can't wait to get my 06 & 16. Although a just spent a TON of cash this week, I just couldn't pass up an opportunity like this.

P.S.
Those look like new Mack!

Yeah i'm really pleased. I just checked the Trijicon night sights in a dark room, those things are cool. I dont know if I should thank you or damn you. I think I will thank you!

Wow, those look awesome. Which is which? Is the -1 the shorter one?

Also, a general question for everyone. Is that a big rear site on the 4506 (guessing).

Yes and yes. The 4516-1 is a compact version of the 4506. 3-1/2" barrel vs 5". The rear sights on the 4506 are adjustable.

Well I took my two new guns to the range today and put a couple hundred rounds through each without any problems. I used a veriety of ammo including reloads and they all proceded to put large holes in the target. The 4506 was a tack driver but I need to adjust the sights a little. The 4516 was surprisingly accurate for a 3-1/2" barrel.

The photo is from the 4516 at about 25'

That'll work! Nice shooting. 3.5 inch barrel at 25 yards -- wow!
