Thinking of a 4506....any thoughts??

As for the 4506, BUY BUY BUY! Heck buy ANY 3rd gen you can get your hands on! They are among the best pistols ever built, and they are all tanks. I think my collection is up to 11 or 12 now, and I keep buying every good buy I see.

-Williamston, wow what a small world. I grew up there for a good chunk of childhood, stationed in Bahrain right now, and returning to Colorado when I leave here. Where is the range you shoot at, I don't remember there being a range when I lived there (left in 92)

Not to hijack the thread too much but Capital City Rifle club just north of Williamston. Its been there for many many years. Very nice range. And to stay on topic, I used to shoot my 4506 there before I got rid of it. ...

Just got my 4506 and 4516-1 from Cabela's today. Rod picked out two excellent condition ones for me. They both have night sights too. I broke them down and I cant believe how clean they look inside. He said they are going fast. Great guy to order from by the way. I will try to shoot them this weekend.

Yes he is. Did the same for me. He was picking 'em out as we spoke.
I can't wait to get my 06 & 16. Although a just spent a TON of cash this week, I just couldn't pass up an opportunity like this.

P.S.
Those look like new Mack!

Yeah i'm really pleased. I just checked the Trijicon night sights in a dark room, those things are cool. I dont know if I should thank you or damn you. I think I will thank you!

Wow, those look awesome. Which is which? Is the -1 the shorter one?

Also, a general question for everyone. Is that a big rear site on the 4506 (guessing).

Yes and yes. The 4516-1 is a compact version of the 4506. 3-1/2" barrel vs 5". The rear sights on the 4506 are adjustable.

Well I took my two new guns to the range today and put a couple hundred rounds through each without any problems. I used a veriety of ammo including reloads and they all proceded to put large holes in the target. The 4506 was a tack driver but I need to adjust the sights a little. The 4516 was surprisingly accurate for a 3-1/2" barrel.

The photo is from the 4516 at about 25'

That'll work! Nice shooting. 3.5 inch barrel at 25 yards -- wow!

I've a story to tell about a 6906 I found today, at a local dealer in LN un-fired condition for $399+tax.

And it doesn't end in my favor either.

BTW.......NICE SHOOTIN':D

I ran across a 4506-1, pre MIM today at a local shop for a pretty decent price. Not smokin deal price but not bad. It even had the straight grip that I like. It was all I could do not to buy it even though it was a -1 instead of the no dash that I am looking for. All of my holsters are for square guard.

Somebody tell me that it won't effect the fit of the holsters so I can justify going back and buying it....

You could bring in a holster and try... ;)

I don't know if it will fit or not, but just to help out:

"it won't affect the fit of the holster"

Now go back and buy it, you can always buy another holster

4506

I have a 4506, excellent, can't beat them, just heavy, but I don't care. You'll love it. I have a 5906 it great too!!!!

Shop just called - MINE IS IN!! :) WOO HOO!

Pick it up Friday - shoot it for function Saturday - shoot an IDPA match with my new 4506-1 on Sunday!

I've been looking for a nice adjustable sight 4506-1 for over six years. Thanks retroparts for posting the info!! Much appreciated!! Best regards, 18DAI.

Yeah thanks again to retroparts for posting the info. and thank you 18DAI for posting about the 4516-1. I have been wanting a compact 45 for some time. Hopefully your gun will be as clean as both of mine were.

Your all very very welcome! And I appreciate the response being a fairly new collector.
I just picked up my 4516 & 4506 yesterday. Got 'em even cheaper as I got my Cabela's card, used the points (and got a cool coffee mug & ball cap).
SO, for less than $800 got x2 top quality "real" pistols?!?!?!?!

Yeah, can't beat that. The 4506 needs a little cleaning & has a little holster wear, which is more like holster "polish" so I'm just gonna run with that & keep polishing her up :-)
The 4516 is a gem! Smaller than my 5906 9mm. Can't wait to fire 'em!

I've a 4003 TSW in the box on the way I got for $405 on Gun Broker.
Gotta take a little break after this... that "guilty" feeling is coming over me ;)

Here's a pic of the small collection.
With my x2 favs thus far being my 645 & 5906.

x2 K-frames 66-2 SS 357Mag & 19-1 Combat 357Mag(Dad's old service revolver). Both w/Hogues.

5906
645
4506 Nite sights & pachs
4516 Nite sights

& the 4003TSW on the way.

Just plain freaking works of art.

yeah I know what you mean about that "guilty" feeling. My wife has been way to understanding about how much money I have spent on firearms.

We keep our $ separate....but nevertheless, still guilty.Why I don't know!
I stopped collecting cars, vintage snowmobiles & boats.
Now have it narrowed to guns & beer mirrors, beer cans(life long hobby re-visited).Sold everything but my boat "inventory" & 1 personal boat & one personal collector car.
The beer stuff & guns is alot cheaper than the previous hobbies And have added range time to my list. Biking, dog walking, golf, boating, and now..range time.
The wife says she'll go to the range w/me if I quit being so spontaneous & plan a day for her to go w/me.
Hopefully the guilt goes away once I get her involved.

Nick is that 4506 a no-dash with adjustable sights....I have been looking for one of those. I know the where a 4506-1 with adjustable sights is....

Mornin' brother.

Mine is a straight up 4506. Just double checked, no -1 or -2.
Rectangular trigger guard w/mild curve.
Has nite sights which only need a small burst of low light ..work perfect.
Tall rear sight guard w/adjustable iron.

Call the SD store this morning. Have Ron pick out the nicest one of the remaining few for you. Tell him Nick from Michigan sent ya.
Have it sent to the Dundee store. Wait till Friday & you'll have it. Then, when ya get there to the Library for pickup, ask for Jack or Quintin. Tell them Nick(Tom Hoffman's cousin) was just in picking up his 4506 & 4516. You may get a discount. Then show your shield & may get a bit more $ off. Apply for Cabela's card if you haven't one & you'll get points you can use right away!

Nick~

Picked mine up this AM. Quick clean and lube and off to the range.

200 rounds of Federal 230 grain ball and 100 rounds of Winchester RAT45 and I am in love! :)

Teeny tiny groups all the way out to 20 yards. Flawless function as expected. Trigger is BETTER than on my PC semi auto's. Someone who knew what they were doing worked on this one.

Oh, it's a dash 3 with forged parts too! As we all know Forged parts are 100% the strength of forged parts. ;)

Some kids in the next lane called it the "Vic Mackey gun". I let them shoot it. Now they want one too!

Thanks again retroparts! Took me years to get my hands on one, but it was worth it! Regards 18DAI.

I really love my 4506, great guns that are built like tanks.

I am trying to be good and not call on monday. I would really like to find a no dash complete with the box and all. I have had two get by me in years past that I should have snapped up. This is purely a want, not a need. I won't be able to carry a 4506 till I retire, and will most likely go back to a 1911 at that time. I just really miss having one and I have kept my two holsters for 16 years just in case. I am sitting on a Miami Classic and a original Kramer horsehide that I bought when he was just starting out. One day soon.
