I am thinking about getting a travel trailer for me and my boys. My folks used to have one years ago and it was pretty fun. Looking for suggestions or types or forums or anyplace I can get some info on them.

This ought to be a good time to buy one. I'd say with the amount of people getting laid off from their jobs there's probably a lot of them up for sale about now.

Check out this RV forum. RV.net They have a separate discussion for every kind of RV as well as other categories. I've been on it for a few years. Life doesn't get much better than RV'ing. We've visited quite a few states. I should warn you that once you click on it you will be up all night...

Hey thanks guys, that was fast. I am a single dad with a 14 and 6 year old boys. I would like to start doing things together with them and get away. My folks really got into RVing when I left home and I think my kids would love it.

Tanks folks

There are thousands of these sitting in cow pastures down here. Left over from Katrina. FEMA should be selling some of them. Make sure it's self contained. Some of them aren't. The formaldehyde lessens as you air them out. Lot's of these are name brand quality stuff.

Now would probably be a very good time to get a good deal on a trailer and a tow vehicle. There are so many choices that it makes it hard to choose. There are usually RV shows about this time every year. Go and compare features and prices. Most campers have more damage from weather and sitting than they do from use. Be very careful when looking at used units. Roof leaks and wood rot are common. If I were buying another, I would seriously opt for fiberglass end caps and sides, also a rubber roof.

It's great fun and has many benifits.

Do you want a full size or a compact trailer?
Pop-up or not?

Take a look at the Aliner trailers- they are rigid pop-ups, and are really easy to tow and store.

Plus, no canvas to rot or get cold if using it for hunting camp. I've stayed with him in it and I was impressed.

I want a tear drop camper!

Basically I just want to tow around a port-a-potty, a refrigerator and a dining area.

It used to be the only way to buy travel trailers was used. There were about a billion of them out there that people bought and THOUGHT they were going to use, but never/rarely did.

Now with the current status of the economy and the fear of gas prices, even new ones are a deal. It's a buyers market.

My folks bought a used 1964 16 foot Aristocrat in 1968 for $ 1,200 and we went all over the southwest and parts of Mexico in it and had a blast. It's substantially the worse for wear now after 40 years of use, but the appliances still work and the roof doesn't leak.

Get the trailer now while you can still convince your oldest to hang around with the old man and rack up some memories...you will not regret it.

We love to motorcycle travel but my wife is very picky about hotels. If she thinks a bug walked thru while they were building the place she won’t sleep there. I hate paying $100+ for a room so we compromised.

This year we are going to go south and ride the keys and I’m teaching my daughter to be a frogman/woman too. So we will be diving the keys! Life doesn’t get much better than that!

My youngest is the only one who ever wanted to learn to ride motorcycles, shoot, dive and be like her daddy. I’ll get some dive pix soon and share. I’m about as proud as can be!

It's actually pretty easy to tow around a Hilton. We started with a travel trailer, then moved to a bigger one, the latest RV is a 36' fifth-wheel. Roughing it includes three tv's, microwave, wetbar, surround sound system, etc. Our campers name is Nirvana.

Without knowing what type of tow vehicle you intend to use, and what type of camping you want to do, it is hard to make any recommendations. Go through the rv.net site and you can learn as much about camping as you can about Smith's on here.

It is truly a lifestyle choice. We love it. I use the same username on that site as here, so I look forward to seeing you there. It is as friendly a place as here as well.

Take out the third row seat, throw in a mattress and you've got a love machine par excellance!! Hook up the boat and you can do land and water.

Cajun,

Was it you or Mr. Burg that had all the problems during vacation with the boat, an accident, and etc. last year?!?

Or was I dreaming that I read that.

I hope everything came out ok!

I have an 8cyl Toyota 4Runner with the towing package and I would like to find a TT that could sleep maybe 5-6. I would like to travel withing the Mid-Atlantic/South Eastern US and hit mostly State Parks or camp sites. Just looking to get started and be able to spend time with my boys and maybe a grand parent or two and get out for a few weekends. I would like to stay around 10K or under. Just looking to start out. I am not retired and do not want to sink 20K or more into this yet. Just looking to get started.

Thanks for al the great iunput folks.
