I know it's crazy but I picked up a shield in 40 s&w. awesome carry gun but I don't think I like it. What can I get for it? Anything would help.

Not sure where you are located at, but several metro Atlanta, GA gun shops sell S&W Shields for $399.99 plus tax when they are in stock. I have purchased two in 9mm in the last three weeks.

Hopefully, you live in an area where people will pay a LGS $559 for a Shield, so you could get $449 retail. Put it one one of those auction sites, & you should do well. GARY

I can't help but ask why you don't like it? I have a Shield 40 myself and wouldn't sell it for nothing. I love my Shield.

I bought one at a good price and sold it at the retail price. Lots of offers. Could have sold it for more. Somehow felt selling it at "retail" was fair, while many dealers are getting MSRP or above. To sell it for more than MSRP struck me as gouging. So, that's both a recommendation and an answer to your question: you should be able to get retail, and it is probably okay to do so. (You might be able to get more, in some areas, but then you would be... gouging).

Just one man's opinion. Your opinion may vary.

You know I can't really explain it. I think it's more so that it is in 40. I am eyeballing that xds 9 mm as well. I'm kind of torn.

I can understand that but for me I was always looking for a .40cal (I'm a .40cal fan) that fit my hand and was perfect to carry, my Shield fit the bill perfectly.

Bottom line is you've got to find what's right for you. If I had the money I would buy it from you. Good luck!

I can't speak for the 40 caliber but I can't justify selling my Shield 9mm for the XDs 9mm.

If I made a list of pros and cons for each weapon the XDs would win out on sights but I purchased XS Big Dots and still kept my Shield below XDs retail. The XDs has a nice case but that doesn't make the gun.

Tell me if I am missing something. I just can't see a big positive to sell my Shield for the XDs 9mm.

After u hold an XDS and maybe shoot it. You'll better understand that the Shield .40 was the better option. I hope u dont sell it before u put an XDS in ur hands. I'd hate for u to sell it and then have trouble finding another when u realize the truth behind the XDS.

Why not convert the .40 to 9mm for the range. After you shoot it enough, u rarely notice the difference between .40 and 9mm.

Yeah. I think you guys are changing my mind some. I appreciate everyone's input!

Sorry to butt in here, but, out of curiosity, how much does that conversion cost? Thinking about the shield myself in the .40 if I don't get a M&P .45.

I might be interested in your shield if you decide to sell it. I have been thinking of purchasing one. I have a p238 but have been considering a 40. Please post if you decide to sell it. Thanks

Back in October when we started the conversion. You could buy the 9mm barrel and a 9mm mag for under $100 shipped to your door. Now days the 9mm barrel supply is exhausted and very hard to find. So i would expect the price on the barrel to be a bit higher considering the circumstance. The mag should be fairly easy to find. My LGS seems to always have them sitting on the shelf.

After all this BS blows over, I would expect to see the supply come up along with everything else.

A S&W Shield, in either caliber, is still in pretty big demand most anywhere. I would think that unless you paid a ridiculous price for it, you wouldn't have much problem getting your money back for it.

That said, unless you're convinced you like the XDs 9 better, like you've done a side by side comparison, I would recommend that you think long and hard about parting with that Shield.

I had a XD40 FS awhile back, I sold it cause I did not like the FEEL of the XD. I have 3 S&W 40's now, (40 Shield, 40 4.25", 40 5" CORE) I like the FEEL of the M&P, and it is made right here in the good old USA

I just got me a Shield 9 and it and I are inseparable. If the snap of the .40 is what you don't like, I suggest seeking out a 9. I have heard mor good things about the Shield 9 then the XDs 9.

Just traded my Shield 9mm I got last Saturday for an XDs45 today. I like the grip and I do like the trigger (wasn't sure but dry fired it at an LGS today and did). Went to the range and I was able to place my shots better using the XDs45 than I could using the Shield 9mm. Plus bigger holes. I will probably get a Hogue grip for the XDs like I did the Shield as it does enhance the grip.

Good deal accessbob. I wondered about a member here trying the XDs out. Of course you have reviewers but hardly a Shield person (especially one that would come on here and state it). I'm still not a fan of the XDs but am a big fan of the shield. I've converted 3 people already. But I always have said there has to be a reason that you can't find a Shield (any caliber) readily in a LGS but you can find more than one XDs. And they are brand new.

.40's in these small, compact guns are pretty snappy and uncomfortable to shoot. I would look at the Walther 9MM PPS. I did and could not be happier. I consider it the 'best in class.'

Have you thought of the 9mm conversion barrel? Better yet, keep the Shield (may be awhile before the 9mm conversion barrel becomes readily available) but buy the XDs45.
