My former boss' quail plantation in South Georgia 20 years ago, all for her friends and family. This German Short Hair has been pointing quail for years and he was good at it. We had several of these and Brittany Spaniels as well. Those dogs loved to work.

In the center is Donnie, our dog guy. Donnie had his own competition dogs that came out on occasion. I sure miss those days.

100 years ago on my family's plantation, well 98 years if you want to be specific, in the pic below. My late dad on the left.

Plenty of wild quail in those days. Interesting that all the dogs were obedience trained to the degree that the small boys were the dog handlers.

My grandfather took a lot of pride in his dogs. When not hunting, the pack lived (not in kennels) on the big house gallery porch. They guarded the women while the men were away working the fields.

Times in south Georgia were pretty rough during the Great Depression. Lots of transient workers and drifters. God help the stranger that wandered up to the big house and met the pack of protectors.

My grandfather was also known for his German Police dogs. What they called GSD's back then.
