I look at the number of members signed on at all the other forums and the numbers are impressive. But here on the 2nd Amendment, there are always just a very few! Way too few.

I understand that reading about protecting our rights is not nearly as "fun" as most of the other topics-- but it is the most important. It is a shame we must constantly and vigilantly defend our constitutional rights; it should be a given and we should not have to even be concerned about it. But that is not the case; we are under constant attack. When we slack off, our rights will evaporate. We have seen it happen all over the globe.

Every gun owner needs to call, write, email or somehow contact their congressman every year to let them know what is important to them! Know that those want to ban firearms from private citizens are well organized and funded.

Todays reading: Obama administration criminalizes gun ownership

I understand I'm preaching to the choir-- the only folks who will read this already understand the serious nature of the clear and present danger to our rights.

. . . there's not enough of us here . . . I just wish more would take some action . . . My state has 2 republican senators, but I have a very liberal democrat Representative-- I have his office on "speed dial". I'm probably on some government list because I write & email them so often.

No worries, Rick. Dom is right. We are here.

Most forum members are pretty savvy and won't waste their time chasing phantoms like the Blair-Holt Act cited in your link or SB 2099. Both are non-starters and even the NRA tells its members not to waste time fighting something that is meaningless and isn't a real threat to the 2A.

Bobby Rush introduces the Blair-Holt thing every year and it attracts exactly ZERO co-sponsors and dies in committee. SB 2099 disappeared nine years ago without any action by the Senate back when Billy Clinton was Pres...

Quote the NRA: "Now, it's time for gun owners to drop this old distraction and focus on the real threats at hand."

A real issue to support is the current Transportation Bill that contains an amendment to allow firearms in checked luggage on Amtrack as is permissible on airlines. Sportsmen who travel for that annual hunting trip should have the ability to go by train (with their firearms in checked baggage) if they so desire. For now, more expensive airfare is the only way they can take public transportation (with their firearms in tow) to their preferred distant "hunter's paradise."

I'm here. This my first post, but been a member a while. Your thread pulled me from the the shadows.

Yes, too many Americans have faith that our 2nd Amendment rights will always be with us. Obama and Bloomberg and other progressive statists are doing everything they can to disarm us. They slowly chip away at our rights. The time has come to make others aware and to fight back.

Just because we are not on this forum all the time doesn't mean we aren't doing anything to defend our 2A rights.

Dont worry we are here! We just all cant be signed in all the time..I do everything i can (i think our mayor hates me!)by contacting our congressmen/women as well as our reps and local government.

I also men to add that i and im sure everyone here are doing all they can to protect all of our rights.

Rick-F: Appears you're new to the Forum so you may not understand folks here don't necessarily like to be told what they should do. Particularly if they may already be doing it.

It's gathering of independent minded individuals who have certain things in common yet don't always do the same things at the same time. FYI...

Be safe.

I go to the 2A forum every time I log on. There isn't much in the way of new posts all that often. I think this reflects the rather narrow subject matter which is fine. I'll wager most folks do the same, check it often but not always much to comment on. Perhaps this is a good sign.

We are vigilant!

We should also point out that at one time this was a hot spot, with much political discussion, probably a lot more heat than light.
Like many, I check in to see whether anything new has developed and if not I am off to other areas.
We have to take care of state and local problems at the appropriate level and much of that never gets here.

Right now the Congress and POTUS are all tied up with the attempt to move our medical care system back into the dark ages, so there is not much 2nd amendment action at the federal level.

Don't worry we are vigilant. When there is something new you will see many more members tune in.

At our church, we have a parishioner who is of British nationality, fought in WW2 in the China/Burma/India theater, then imigrated to the United States after WW2. He became a nationalized U.S. citizen, then started enjoying his Second Amendment rights, bought some sporting firearms, rifles and shotguns, took up hunting with his sons, bought a handgun or two.

He is a life member of the NRA, and likes to point out that there are approximately three million members of the NRA, but over 100 million gun owners in the US. He always says "*** is wrong with the rest of those knuckleheads!"

My response is at least 50% of U.S. citizens are oblivious to most things, eroding away of our gun rights is just one of them....

The article is suspect to me because of the mention of the false H.R. 45 which has been spread around gun forums for quite sometime. I wonder how much of the rest of it is not true and being used to scare people or appeal to the lowest emotions of readers.

People should get their facts right before spreading it around.
