Agreed that some things should be left alone. In this case, I think that it could also be characterized by the advice to "never kick a skunk".

I realize that I may be in the minority in my opinion of this film, but I've come to the conclusion that glorification of the drug culture and portraying southerners (in general) as knuckle-dragging Neanderthals wasn't beneficial. -S2

I watched Easy Rider again, maybe ten of 15 years ago, and thought it had aged badly. (Or maybe it was just me that had aged badly?) I should watch it again and see what I think.

I suppose a remake, set in today's America, trying to capture the same rebellious youth spirit of the original 1960s film, would be about today's values of diversity vs what has become the stodginess and social conservatism of traditional boomer gender, class and racial expectations....

I wonder if the new movie will use motorcycles as a symbol of freedom. Not sure what else they could use. Motorized stand-up scooters seem too anemic to inspire much of a thrill.

And I bet drugs play a much less prominent role, if they play any role at all. Probably good ol' alcohol will play that role. ("Nick-nick-nick!")

I can see it now

I did not see Easy Rider when first released. I did watch it, I think, 3-4 years ago on TCM. It seemed very dated and not particularly entertaining. Just as well that I didn't see it the first time around.

Easy Rider made quite an impact in '69 and the early 70's and gathered a cult following. But, like the chewing gum on the bedpost, it has lost its flavor over time.

I'm intrigued as to how they reinterpret it especially with today's advanced cinematography and related high-tech gear.

I will watch it and let the story take me where it will.

Easy Rider was made at a time when many bad films were being produced and good taste in films by the viewing public had deteriorated significantly (maybe because there were so few good films made?). Fortunately, Nicholson and Hopper went on to make far, far better films. Not true for Peter Fonda who has been in one good film that I can recall (an obscure one). His Easy Rider role was about typical of his efforts.

Looks like we're again at that low point and have been there a while. When viewers prefer Tarantino films (even though not every one of his movies was sorry) and are John Wick disciples, that says sad things about filmgoers' tastes. Sort of like eating fast food often and calling it good. Some begin to really believe it's true.

Casablanca was a good movie, but probably not considered excellent by many. Yet, it's way ahead of much that has been made in recent times even if it's only worth seeing once.

I'll watch it when it Streams.
Up near Taos I meet a Lady who claimed to be the NM Hippy Historian.
I asked her if the Hog Farm sequence was filmed near Taos.
She told me that it was supposed to be.
But when the Caterer brought in big pans of meat, they ran off the entire crew.
Those Hog Farm folks were hard core Vegetarians.
The sequence was later shot in Cali.

Easy Rider was the first R rated movie I ever saw at the theater. Kinda seemed like a right of passage at the time. Different times for sure.

I like Taos and that part of New Mexico, but some strange folks came to Taos in the '60s and never returned home. You can still spot some of them walking the streets.

No matter how I tried to word it, I just could not come up with a response that wouldn't get me dinged.
I'll just say that I never liked that movie and leave it at that. ;)

Never appreciated easy rider movie, extended forks, Peter Fonda or bell bottoms.
