THIS is why I drink Islay single malts

I don't disagree with the premise, but there's no reason you have to drink single-malts that taste like landscaping. I find the peaty Islay whisky as palatable as gym sock tea. That's some skanky stuff.

There are plenty of good Speyside distilleries. My favorite is the Glenfarclas 105 that is cask-strength. Don't drink a lot of it as it's a bit pricey.

It's all poison. Just like any other drug. It's expensive and it tastes awful. Can't shoot a gun, can't run a chainsaw, can't ride a motorcycle after drinking. I don't need a chemical to be happy.

If you had to get used to it, it wasn't much good in the first place.

Well, if you can find it in the US, I recommend "cask strength Edradour" Smallest distillery in Scotland, just North of the Highland Line. ..

I just checked our liquor stores. "Regular" 10 y.o. Edrarour is available (fortunately not near me!) About $79.00 USD equiv.

Many years ago an ex-pat living just down the street from me in Vancouver BC belonged to the Scotch Whisky Society and had several bottles of cask-strength single malts, mostly from "unknown" little distilleries. My then gf & I were treated to one such and I can still remember being blown away, even neat. A touch of water opened it up and made it "bloom." WHOA!

Sorry, but no pine needles, no berries, and no peat! Don't mind the smoke, but peaty Scotch is just not for my palate. Tough to beat a single malt Macallan 12 or 18 year-old from the Speyside region.
