Boss sent me home early today so i decided to go to the range before i picked up the kids.

I just finished cleaning my rifle and noticed that one of the trigger pins either is in the right position or it may have moved? I shot about 300-500rds today.

Can someone let me know if this pin is in the right position?

Separate the upper and lower and look to see if your hammer is canted to one side or the other. If it is you need a new hammer. Hammer pin capture spring is at fault... Get a regular AR hammer or send it back to factory for replacement. The internal hammer spring keeps the pin from "walking" out.

Also you could ditch the standard pins for a set of KNS pins.

Yes but it will keep walking out with the defective capture spring in the hammer.

The spring may or may not be defective. It's quite possible it was never seated properly in the grove in the pin in the first place.

Slide it back in until you feel the spring engage the grove in the pin. If it walks out again, then it's time to deal with it.

Always the glass half full kind of guy... I like it :)

You pin walked. It's fairly common. You can order a set of KNS anti-walk pins for about $10 and never worry about it again.

Where do you get them for that price? I've only seen them for over $30. I use the JP anti-walk pins as they cost half as much as KNS. KNS costs more because they are also non-rotating but I don't see where that helps on a 15-22.

Looks like they have gone up in price. I got mine from primary arms in September for 9.99 on sale. I think 17.99 was the regular price at the time. Then around Black Friday I got a set from them for my AR and they were 7.99. They seem to be on sale quite often.

Had this happen too. S&W fixed it right as gold.

Back in December 2012, I bought the RealTree Camo version. Less than 20 shots, the hammer pin drifts out. I pushed it back in with my index finger, but the pin began drifting out again. This caused the hammer to shift off its center axis and I began getting continuous failure to fire from light strikes.

As it turned out with mine, there is a small spring that's peened inside the hammer, called the J-spring. The J-spring was lose and was not properly engaging the center groove on the hammer pin, that kept drifting. I called S&W and they sent me a prepaid FEDEX shipping label. While I was waiting for the shipping label I foolishly shot the rifle more, assuming all I had to do (in dealing with the annoying light strikes) was keep pushing the pin back in. Well as my luck would have it:o, the rifle suffered an OOB and blew the extractor out of the bolt assembly.

Anyway, the rifle went back to S&W and they had it back to me in less than two weeks, fixed....no more problems. Perfect, No questions asked. :D I'm a huge fan of S&W's customer service.

Replaced Hammer :D
Replaced Pins :D
Replaced Extractor :D
Replaced Hammer spring :D

Needless to say, I was a damn happy camper when the rifle came back fixed!

As noted above already, the pins are not flush on either side of the M&P 15-22's lower receiver because the lower is slightly wider than a standard AR lower. So the pins are slightly recessed on both sides.

If the rifle is in any way malfunctioning, call S&W:cool:. They'll make it right!:D:D

Regards, Mike
