Midway just shipped my case of 22 Blazer ammo. It's been on backorder since SEPTEMBER! I really never thought it would get shipped. I figured it would eventually be cancelled. I don't want to brag (okay maybe a little :D), but I think this is a good sign in general. I only wished I'd ordered a couple of more cases back when I had the chance.

5k???? How big is that safe?

Pretty good size....it's a partitioned safe and the case was propped up against the back wall and held in place with my Encore/Contender/shotgun barrels....I knew I had bought another case but couldn't remember where they heck I put them....they weren't with my other .22 stash.

Interesting that Midway didnt have them in stock back then. That was well before the ammo shortage occurred.
Oh well, either way.. Congrats on the shipment.

but I think this is a good sign in general.

I don't agree with this statement based on the date that you backordered the ammo. If anything its actually a sign of how bad things really are. You ordered ammo 3-4 months before panic mode, so under normal circumstances they were already 3-4 months backordered.

I have found that most of my local gun shops have been receiving about 2-3 k per week. Which normally they would not sell months ago, thus the pile on the shelves back then.
But now,They have a number of guys waiting at the door 8 AM on shipment day wanting to buy all they have. The GS limits them to one brick per purchase till its all gone. Same guys show up the next week.
I WISH I could get into that line, but I have to work.
Seems to me, the business of buying available ammo and selling has become an industry all in itself. Just one more middle man thats really making a big mark up. The ones that are making it big, I guess dont work on regular jobs? They have the time to hang out at the stores, they know when shipments arrive and be first in line. Then sell for high prices. Ive seen on a few Gun related websites where they actually brag on their kill shots and how much they sell them for.
Now, How are you ever going to stop that ?

In a perfect world if you wanted to stop it within a week or a months time you have to have people stop buying ammo for more than normal prices. Long term it will fall on its own once people stock as much as they feel comfortable with, once the gougers raise the price so high that no one will pay it will start to decline, when retailers fill their backorders and manufacturers can focus on restocking distributors.

Its really a mindset of greed. Greed on the part of people trying to make a quick buck. Ironic thing is I'm sure a good number of those flippers are ANTI-GUN! They want to continue to feed the fire, drain your pockets, limit supply, etc. The other side of that coin is end users are greedy. We know we are good on supply but we see a box of .22lr at Walmart and we buy it. I'm sure there are hungry people out there that decided to eat Ramen for a month and go blow the food money on ammo.

We are our own worst enemy at this point.

Well that's one way to look at it. I figured things were bad enough that the backorder would be eventually dropped. So I take it as a good sign that things are shipping. Not that I expect it to return to normal any time soon.

As soon as prices on GB drop to the point when it's no longer worth their effort.

Supply and demand will likely equalize at some point. But the price of centerfire will have to come down first, so that people start shooting that again and forget about .22lr.

A quick google in "news" of "Winchester ammunition shortage" will scare the daylights out of anyone...

IMHO, we're not likely to see any return of normal supply, at all, until next year at best.

I doubt it is a good sign yet as you still cannot find most common ammo types anywhere in stock and prices are elevated still in most LGS by 20-50%. Some online retailers that you used to be able to backorder from though do seem to be getting a trickle of product in as I also got notification yesterday that my case of 9mm ammo I bought almost 4 months ago is shipping from Midway finally. It all depends on where you are in the pecking order when you placed your order originally as I saw the estimated arrival time for this order get pushed back six times before it shipped.
