This was a tough call to go on.

You are a good man for going. I would encourage you to keep your own time for yourself and family. I would also advise the dispatcher to respect other’s private time.

I truly hope that science has progressed in the 26 years since my father was diagnosed and the 21 years since he has gone.
Witnessing what I did, altered my thinking about life. I can understand why your neighbor did what he did.

To the OP,

My gawd, man, you can write.

You had a hell of a topic, and you turned it into a beautiful piece of prose that truly shared the feelings, the pain, and the sorrow of the years living with others who are not so fortunate.

To me, great writing is when you lay yourself bare to others. There's no place to hide your own nakedness, your own humanity. It seeps through the words and breaks your heart.

You've got it captured and written down; you can "let it go" now.

Thanks for sharing.

While it was I'm sure an incredibly hard thing for both you and your wife it shows the heart in law enforcement that people often don't see. I deal with many deaths, both natural and unnatural as CSI. It's never easy and less so when you know the person. God bless.

May God continue to bless you and your wife, Officer Faulkner. Thank you for helping friends at a terrible time in their lives. You have my deepest respect for what you do for others.
