This weekend's gun show finds...

Lemme guess; Saturday evening you hit 4 or 5 ATM's, knowing full well you were going back Sunday morning to own that Model 29, right?:rolleyes::rolleyes:
What a score!!!
Actually I had made a deal shortly after the show opened Sunday for whatever cash I had on me plus a check for the rest which he accepted since he could see I wanted it...Then before the show ended that afternoon, I managed to re-home one of my 27-2's for cash, and bought my check back...And it's not a Model 29; it's a 4-screw made shortly before the numbered model change......Ben

Wow! I thought these days were now long behind us, with the exception of collector-to-collector.

Thanks for giving me hope for the next big show here in about two months time...wasn't sure if I would even go, but you just inspired me again. Thank you.

"pre" Cokes, means they were on an early 44Mag, before the mod-29 designation came in about 1957-58. I have both, I cant see any discernable
difference between "pre" and "post" Cokes.

Got it, thanks Mike!......Ben

EDIT: As expected, these are not numbered, but interestingly the unrelieved target stocks on one of the 1950's are numbered, but not to that gun!...

Congrats truckman. My son lives in Wichita Falls and went to a show Sunday. He said it was awful and probably 30tables. He grew up going to local shows with me that had 80-100 tables and 200 -300 at big regional shows. Still not great but hey I'm in New York lol. I guess not all Texas gun shows are created equal.

…Then I noticed the guy with a table across from mine had a 4-screw 4" blued .44 Magnum (dates to 1957)...He no longer shoots, and his Dad carried this one as a sheriff's deputy...

...I told him if it was mine, I wouldn't have any problem putting $2500 on it and negotiating from there...On Sunday he still had it, and was motivated to sell...So after some more talk and wheedling, it was mine...Ben

I don't know, Ben? Let's see if I am receiving what you are saying. You spend all you money on a couple of 44 S&W Special revolvers. While gloating over those purchases, where you probably skinned the sellers, you notice a kid with tears streaming down his face. You ask him, "Can't you whine somewhere else, you're bad for my business." He tells you he is crying because he has to sell his beloved fathers duty revolver. You suggest he post a high dollar amount on it. When it doesn't sell, you lowball him and win the trifecta!

Do I have that about right?

Also, sent you a pm.

Some kid he was...Said he was 72, which to me is a kid I suppose...Nice guy, just didn't have kids who could respect the history of the guns he had, and didn't want to leave it up to his wife to sell them after he was gone...I'm pretty sure the deal was equitable to both of us...:)...Ben

Glad the show worked pout for you! The 29 is really great in that you were able to get some history on it. I always try to find out the background on the used guns I buy.
Jim
