Mine was made 7/1/2013.

At the very beginning of the trigger pull there is a slight click/catch and then a very short take-up and then when it fires it has a very very short reset. Is this common on these "new" triggers?

I mean the very beginning, trigger is just beginning it's travel. It feels almost like the reset just going the wrong direction.

I really would hate to have to return this thing, it shoots fantastic and the trigger after that moment is the best I have felt on a M&P.

IMO, it sounds like u are describing a perfectly good functioning weapon that suits ur needs.

I wouldnt return it.

I agree, after the little click, it is perfect, it surprises me each time it breaks. It is very smooth right up till it breaks. The little click will probably disappear with time, it is probably small amount of flashing or a rough parting line on the sear block.

I think what you are feeling might be the split trigger? I've notice that if I am not deliberate in placing my finger pad mostly below the hinge that I engage the "trigger safety" slightly by roughly hitting the trigger nub on the frame.

Otherwise you are feeling the trigger bar engage the striker safety block but this happens right before the trigger rests on the sear, not at the begging of the travel.

I just shot my Shield 9mm and noticed this click also. Just purchased in late June. I have been shooting my FS .40 since January so it was definitely a different feel but didn't take long to get used to it. I love my Shield and can't wait to shoot it again.

OP, it's really simple to determine where the clicking sound is coming from. Just remove the slide, pull the trigger and observe/feel where the noise is coming from.

If the problem goes away after removing the slide, then the source of the sound is the trigger bar beginning to push the striker safety block at an angle. If so, remove the striker and striker back plate from the slide, reattach the slide, and observe through the back of the slide as the trigger bar engages the striker block. Does the clicking sound coincide with the movement of the striker block?

I really didn't want to tear into it. This past Sunday, I started trying to diagnose it, immediately I figured it out. With the slide off it still had the click. I started looking deeper with my 10x finish magnifier and found a burr on the upper portion of the trigger. It was a small plastic burr on the side of the trigger that was hanging up on the locking block. I took a Xacto knife and trimmed it off, no more clicking and still the same great trigger.

Thanks Stratajema, I appreciate the post and tips!
