This is a scratched up, 5 inch, nickel, 38 Military & Police Model of 1905 4th change, circa 1922. The period presentation case in the second photo is from JB Crook & Co of NYC.

I'll share details from the letter once I receive it. Enjoy!

mike, don't you just hate it when someone scratches up a nice gun like that? could i possibly get a couple of pics of the case? i might try to make up one like it. thanks for sharing. lee

That is cool, it sort of reminds me of the cap guns I carried as a kid.

Pace, Nice 1,000th post! I'll look forward to hearing the results of your letter. Oh, and where's the barbeque?

Any idea when the engraving was done ?

If you have a pair of lighter-tone wood grips, you might try putting them
on the gun. I've always felt that nickel guns look much better with wood,
than pearl. The wood provides a nice contrast to the nickel.

Thanks for all the great comments guys...

Hi Mike...Viewing the gun under light and loupe, I can find no inconsistency that would suggest it is not period engraving. Mr Carroll is convinced that it is factory by Jarvis and I see nothing to contradict that. Pattern and coverage is similar to other pieces I've seen photos of attributed to Jarvis. Even some of the fluer patterning appears identical. Most interesting is the "winged wheel" above the trigger guard on the left side. If you'll recall, in our previous discussion, I said that I was looking forward to receiving a letter more for that M&P than any other except for one. Well, this is the one. I guess we'll see.

very nice Pace. when i was waiting for my letter, it seemed an endless wait. you must be a bit more than excited. i too am looking forward to the letter's information
