Thoughts on the new SA-35

I have been watching the BHSpring Solutions video blog on the evaluation gun they have.. multi part taking it from bone stock to one of their custom setups shooting over 1000 mixed rounds thru it along the way.. they disassemble it at one point and media tumble it to knock off the sharp edges that cut the reviewers hand.. I too am in a wait & see holding pattern.. will shoot my real BHP's until then...

Renown custom gun builder Jason Burton has torn one down, posted about it on 1911addicts, stated he didn't find any evidence of mim/casting on the parts. With just some simple work and no swapping of parts he was able to bring the trigger down to just over 4lbs.

Frankly it'll take me awhile to hit a high round count on this pistol due to limited range time and ammo. If I do start having extraction issues I'll definitely report back on that.

Jason is in business to build tier 1 custom pistols, BHSS is in business to sell parts. I'll lean towards to Mr. Burton right now but will definitely be open to any faults that may develop and won't blindly praise this pistol even though at this point I'm very happy with it. Fingers crossed it continues to work as it has.

Gougers will gouge. It is not a good use of money for me, and if I wanted one I would wait until the SA Custom Shop is doing things with them. I'm a lefty, so the ambi safety is a big deal, and once you start down the path you might as well do some other stuff. For me, the only other major issue is likely to be sights - my eyes are not flexible.

For what I paid I have had the thought a couple times to get it hard chromed after softening all the edges. Just a really light bead blast after I am done and HC, leaving the sights in the black.

A very promising version of the Hi-Power! I am definitely interested in acquiring one, but not sight unseen. I see the scalpers are active!

Some are talking about extractor issues at the 800 round mark.
Wait to the extractor and sharp edges are sorted out.

Could be some issues with the early production pistols. Good rule of thumb, never be the first to buy a new design or an existing design from a manufacturer that is new to the design.

BHSS did a very detailed review that runs about eight 20 minute videos and includes swapping their parts into it. Honestly, I have not seen it all yet. They did mention the longer springs and the safety lever issue. I will check that on any gun I buy. They were happy with the frame and slide hardness saying its a good foundation.
Generally, from owner reviews on various gun forums, people seem to be very pleased with the guns.
I still plan on buying one, but now know more about what to look for.

Ouch!! I ordered mine from my range/shop, $689 and change out the door. No reason to pay the ridiculous prices the unscrupulous are asking.

where in Colorado did you find yours? I put my name in for one of the first 6 ordered at a shop in Ft. Collins. That was on the day SA announced the gun. Still nothing.

Needs an ambi safety. I think I read somewhere that about 10% of the population was left-handed but about 20% of gun enthusiasts are left-handed. I'd buy one if they add an ambi-safety option. I've got a Novak FN HP with an ambi-safety.

A Hi Power was my first pistol, bought new in 1974. I'm not a Springfield fan at all, but I like everything about this new one except the matt finish. I prefer polished blue. Even though I don't like the company I'm really glad they brought this out.

Even if made in USA, 90% of steel forgings are made by Gerdau Ameristeel, a Brazilian company.

It's a global marketplace. I'm okay with "Made in USA" from parts sourced elsewhere.

However, if a company claims publicly that their product is 100% American made, they better be prepared to reveal their sources. If they won't, one should conclude they are lying. I have challenged a few such companies, and ALL declared, "Oh, we can't reveal our sources."

We're just supposed to trust them. After all, their products are 100% American made!

I am not that skeptical because the claim that they are made in the US would be much too easy to verify. I think this will turn out to be the best rendition on the market and there are several things that I think are an obvious improvement on the original. I want one but need them to come out with an ambi safety as an option. I like the shape of the safety so I hope they do otherwise I will have to get one from Cylinder and Slide or put the SFS system in it.

Verification of whether or not they are made in whole or in part in the US may not be that easy unless someone here knows someone personally that is involved in the actual P35 production line, and not in management or sales. Those two groups of people have probably been instructed not to discuss parts origins if not made in US.

I cannot say that I do not like the company, but I will agree that I do not like the matte finish. Below is my 1971 that I bought new. Probably has not been fired in 45 years. Added the Spegel grips early this year. to dress it up a bit. Cost 94.00:D
