i'm looking to replace my M&P 9 core barrel with a threaded one, and it seems even though S&W makes them, they are not available. My question is, for a gun that will see competition use, how do the aftermarket barrels compare, wilson, aac, kkm, storm lake, etc. I want to get the best one available.

Thanks
Jim

I use KKM barrels in my competition guns, tens of thousands of rounds without a problem. I think most of the major aftermarket barrels will be similar. You didn't say what flavor of competition you're interested in, that will make a difference in respect to which division you will be shooting. You may want to decide that before you start buying parts.;). Is your Core factory ported? If so that restricts you already.

I'll have to post in this thread in a week or two as I have a Storm Lake threaded barrel on the way for my 9c. They claim match grade performance and from the reviews I have read it seems so...groups tighten up a bit from SL barrels according to those who posted...I will have to see for myself. That would be nice as the threaded barrel is almost $200 but I bought it for suppressor capability so match grade performance would just be a bonus.

I have the M&P compacts in 9, 40 and 357 with no complaints about the performance with stock barrels. I'll be interested to get the new barrel to the range right away and I'll report my take.

i am considering open division, i'm getting older and a optical sight will help a lot. i have a pro core 9mm, not ported, 4.25" barrel. i'm maybe going to try 3 gun also, but only if pistol works out by itself. I figure if open doesn't work for me i could just take the optics off.
I don't see myself as a gunshop ninja, i don't expect to be that great a shooter, but i want to have some fun, and improve what little skills i have. i shot ppc years ago and thought it might be fun to get back into shooting. I still have my ppc gun as well, a customized model 19.
