I have opwned three M&P compact pistols, one 9MM and two 40's. The first two, 9MM & 40 would drop the magazine upon firing about 50% of the time. Bought another 40 two weeks ago. This one the slide will prematurely lock back about 3 times on each magazine. 30% failure rate is unacceptable. Gun shop where I got it says turnaround for S&W warranty repairs is min 8 weeks. That stinks!

I sent a gun in and it was there and back in a week and a half.
And just when does S&W test fire their new handguns before shipping them to distributors? Or is the customer the final Quality Assurance inspector seeing as how Quality Control from the manufacturing process is low? Your manufacturing process builds quality into your product, not the customer being the final inspector.
In S&W's defense my new stainless steel Match Target 45 was flawless when I bought it five years ago.

Just to put things in perspective, I've had 3 M&P's and not one single failure of any kind in any of them.You must have some bad luck.

I have a 45 FS and it has never failed to operate as designed.

I have an M&P9C. When I first got it I switched the magazine release to the other side. When I did that the magazine's follower hung up about half way through. After discussing this with C.S. (to make sure I didn't void my warranty) I decided to sand the plastic followers. Since then the pistol has been flawless.
I'm sorry to hear you've had the experience you have, but in my dealings with C.S. they sure seemed interested in making sure I was happy - even if I didn't have to send it back. They emailed me to see if the sanding worked and took an active interest.

Something is wrong. I have a 9c and a 45c and not dropped magazines or misfires.
I would forget the dealer and call S&W direct.

I can't make the move to anything smaller than my Glock 26.
I retired from the local Sheriff's office 2 years ago. We were/are a very gunny department. We are issued Glocks but can carry about anything we want. Including 1911's with no series 80, or Swartz safeties. Noveske rifles in all the cars. I'm just saying I've been exposed to a lot of firearms.
I can't find a mouse/rat? Gun I trust. I was all set to buy a Kahr PM9 a couple of years ago and shot and carried a friends a fair bit while I decided. Even that supposedly very reliable gun had too many Malfs.
So I'm stuck with my G26 as my primary summer gun and still carry a Wilson Combat a lot in the winter. I have 2 J-frames in .38. Both 442's. One's been through the Gunsite Gunsmithy many years ago and has a Raven on the side plate. Lately I stick a S&W 43C .22 RF in my pocket as a backup, or New York reload.
I guess I'm just rambling. But the point is I'd love a small 9mm I could trust but can't find one. So I still soldier on with J-Frames. Almost always as a second gun. But I'd rather be able to stick my 43C in someone's ear and be pretty darn sure it's going to work than mess with the mouse guns I don't trust.
That little narrow Springfield XD in 45acp would interest me if I wasn't so far out in the river to turn around at this point.
