A quick update:
JG Sales was true to their word and sent a new locking block free of charge.
It took some effort to get the old one out, but the new one popped right in.
I replaced the recoil spring, too. The new one was almost an inch longer than the one that came with the gun. I got another magazine while I was at it. DK Firearms is the place to go for parts for these old guns.
I put 50 rounds through it yesterday with no problems, so it looks like I'm back on track for the boy's birthday.
