I've posted about this on a few threads now and guess it's time to quit hijacking threads.

I currently live on the west side of Broward County Fl. and have been in the area for about forty years. It used to be the sticks and now has become saturated and built out. Most of my friends have moved away.

After considering my needs and wants I decided I wanted to be near the central coast and started looking for a small place with a two car garage and a quarter acre lot or better. I don't want a lot of maintenance.

I decided at my age I need to be close to things and decided Port Saint Lucie was pretty close to what I need. Lots of fishing opportunities, lots of cruse nights and lots of other festivities I enjoy. They're building a new bridge a short distance form where I'm looking that will go over the river and to the beach. What they've done so far is really nice.

This post is getting long.

Last week I found a neet little place that looks like it will do and called. It turns out the realtor was also the owner. She was using it for investment and bought it right, remodeled it somewhat and rented it out. Now she wanted to sell and we talked about it.

My friend up there's daughter is also a realtor and I asked her to check it out for me. She took her dad over the other day and they both thought it was perfect for me and told me to come and see it.

Well, I've been shopping for a while and know what prices are and they're going up daily and selling fast. Some are even getting into bidding wars and selling for more than list.

I made an offer a couple of days ago as did a few others and managed to get her attention as I'm a cash buyer. She accepted it.

This is a long story but not nearly long as my day.

I cut out of here this morning to have a look for my self and showed up there and hour and a half later and waited for my friend and his daughter to get there. I walked around the yard and met the neighbors dog. A really fat female wiener dog. We got along well. I know my dogs are gonna give her the business but she's seen it all.

The house looks ok from the outside but the front needs some up grades and landscaping. Easy for me.

My friends show up and we went inside. Not bad. New and nice tile corner to corner and new kitchen. The renters weren't bad and the place is pretty clean, Not much to do inside. The garage is pretty nice and is deeper than most.

All and all pretty cool so I made a good faith deposit and ordered an inspection. We'll see.

This is where the story gets weird.

My friend is buying one about a mile away. So we went over to see his. Nice.

We look around for a while and decide we'll go get a lunch and after that I'll head on back my way. I jump in my truck and hit the key and, click. No crank. Son a gun! What's this?

Tried to jump it and, click. The battery is only two years old. Hmm.

Now I'm thinking I got trouble. It's Saturday, It's after two and I'm about an hour and a half plus away from home. I'm hungry.

I called for a tow and planned on a rent a car and another trip up there Monday to pick my truck up. This trip is gonna cost me $$$ !!!

My friends leave me to go see about a rental and I sit there for a few minutes enjoying the weather. Thinking.

I grabbed my hammer and reached under the truck and gave the started a whack. Nope. Tried it again and, Success.

I hauled but home.

Some times you're the bug. Sometimes you're the windshield. I was both in one day and my windshield has bugs all over it. :)

Port St. Useless, winter home of the Mets.
Hope you look good in blue and orange.

Hope you make it work. Not far but you made just past the Lake.
Bit more like real Florida than down here. Locals can be a bit clannish,
pretty much like anywhere else when the demographics begin to change.
Terrific range just inland near where the Beeline meets 70.
Pretty much ruined Markham for me.

Best to you, man.

good for you DG... sounds like you have just enough for you & your pups.. without being overwhelmed with yardwork...upkeep. Be careful when you are moving your firearms into the new place.. if the home has an attached garage.. use it with the garage door down to unload any gun safes & while unloading your firearms from the car.

Last year our niece & her husband decided to buy a home in town, so they bought a super nice home in the best part of Ponca City, Okla... but someone saw them moving in things... they were burgled about a week later, every gun taken plus electronics, plus a spare set of keys to their new place, their vehicles etc... So they had to get a locksmith to rekey everything & get their dealerships to help on the vehicle locks too. None of which was cheap...

We figure that one of their new neighbors or one of the neighbor's friends/kids saw them carrying in their bird guns, deer rifles etc . Be very careful how you transport your firearms... burglars look for targets in a variety of ways.

My neighbor's BIL stopped by just now and loves my place. He's going to the bank tomorrow to secure the funds.

That was easy. This is the nicest trailer home around. :D:D:D

Good luck in your new home.
You had better luck than I did with my trucks starter the day before yesterday.
Same problem but the hammer never helped.
It ended up being an expensive starter and tow truck.

I sure did get lucky. The starter cost $150 and I'll put it in myself. I have access to a lift where my hot rod is. It started this morning W/O the persuader. It better start tomorrow. My insurance woulda picked up the cost of the tow but not the rental.

The inspection is done and all is well. It looks like I'll be closing with in a week.

I was down at the shop today to see whats wrong with the parts I ordered for the hot rod. They sent me the wrong parts. They're gonna make good.

While I was there I got a call from a title company wanting me to sign a contract on my place down here. I'll put it past my lawyer first.

Dang, Things are moving fast. I better get packing.

Almost 3 years ago I moved from a house after 32 years of living there. The move was only 5 miles in distance but I got rid of tons of accumulation! The only "secret" I have to pass on is: before the movers arrive, put a post-it on every piece of furniture or large item they are moving. It needs to say what room it is going to! This allows them to pack the van for the fastest off load. My moving foreman (of a 3 man crew) claimed it saved me 1.5 hours @ $175 per hour. I guess the implied secret is use movers! (you are not 20 any more and most likely your not 3 times 20 either- like me!)

Ivan, I'm a busted up 57 year old. I'm not gonna hurt myself doing what I woulda done a few years ago.

I have more tools than furniture to move. Heavy stuff.

I used a local mover to help me with some stuff from my parents place and he knows what kinda stuff I have. He's a gear head too. He said he would have no problem moving me up there. It's about 2 hours by the speed limit from my current local. I'm sure he'll treat me well again.

My daughter lives north of you in Melbourne. She loves it there. She also just bought a house.

I like Melbourne. It's not far from where I'm going. Heck, Nothing is really far once you clear Palm Beach going north. At least it doesn't seem so next to the traffic here.

I have a really good friend in Melbourne.
