Bought a 617 about 4 months ago (first handgun) and shot about 2500 rounds thru it (beauty of 22lr prices). Traded it in today for a new 686 4" now got to do the 10 day CA wait. Thanks S&W forum for pointing me in the right direction... the 617 was the perfect first range gun and got me a lot of good practice but have wanted a 686 from the start and know I will not be trading this one in.

I have traded many guns off myself over the years.
If the 617 was a 4" with steel cylinder, you will wish you had of kept it one of these days. I shoot more ammo through my 4" 6 Shot 617 than any other handgun I own.

I would start saving my money up to buy another 617 if I were you.

By the way, enjoy the 686. What version did you get?

Bob
