Sometimes it pays to ask. Right there on a table with a bunch of other old ammo, no prices marked. I lost all composure and didn’t even try to beat him down when he said he wanted $25. “Thank you very much!” :D

It’s a full, sealed box. According to the Standard Catalog of Winchester by Kowalski, it dates between the mid-1880’s and the mid-1890’s. It’s labeled as a half box, because full boxes of .22’s held 100 cartridges back then. The Oct. 24th patent date is wrong and was corrected to Oct. 31st on later labels. That’s my crappy Saran wrapping job, maybe I need to break down and buy some window film (I‘ve been told it works great).

Don't leave Saran wrap or it's generic equivalents on there for long- it contains acid which will come off on the paper gradually, or worse yet the print or paper will stick to the wrap if it ever gets hot.

I can't remember what some of the other collectors use, but I recommend getting that Saran wrap off soon.

That was an incredible catch!!!
