Titegroup and 45acp

I usually load 5. grn's for my 1911, and the 625, with 200gr LFP bullets.
Hodgdon's site lists 4.8-5.4 grns for the powder.
I want to load some lite loads for the wife to shoot in the 625, she does not like recoil.
Has anyone gone lighter than the listed 4.8 grns with Titegroup?
I do have some other powders I can go to, but was just wondering how low I can go with TG in the 625.

I use 4.6g with 230g Ranier TMJ's. Recoil is mild for a 45. About 750fps in a 4" barrel.

For 45 AR, I use 4.5 gr Titegroup with cast 230 gr RN boolits. Mild recoil, very accurate. I have went as low as 2.3grs, but the load was not quite as accurate. I am shooting a 5" brl. 625. In a a 625, the 4.5 gr/230 gr LRN load is about like shooting 148 gr target loads in a K frame smith.

I used 4.5 grns TG with 185/200 lswc 45acp. MP 45 FS no problems

Great groups. 5/6 one hole groups at 11 yds offhand.

This is one of my favorite practice loads as well, and works just fine in my 1911s.

I'm not a big fan of TiteGroup. It is such a dense powder that there is mighty little of it in the case with a normal load. Case fill is a big deal for consistency and going too low is a bad thing when it comes to squibs. Now, TG may not be as position sensitive as other mainstay fast burning pistol powders but I think it would be a bad thing for a new shooter to have a stuck bullet. They would think they did something wrong and that would be bad too.

If it were me, I would use TrailBoss in the M625 ONLY. Load it down to the minimum and your case will still be pretty full and you will not have a squib. Recoil will be negligible. Even to the point of should you use them in the 1911, they won't cycle the slide if you have a standard spring in it!

Tightgroup works very well, and I am a big fan for loading it in 38 spl. For .45ACP I like Winchester 231. Been using it for 30+ years and it has never let me down.

A mild load for your wife (or for you too) is 4.6 gr. W231 using a hard cast lead 230 Gr. RN bullet. I find this will have minimal recoil and will operate the slide reliably even with the factory 18 pound spring.

I load as light as 4gr titegroup with lead bullets. The powder is not position sensitive; just be sure only ONE charge in a case.
Your 625 will shoot fine; your 1911 probably won't go all the way back with stock spring.

I've tried Titegroup for both .45 auto and .38 special. I was unimpressed - I found W231 to be just as accurate. Titegroup also burns very hot (in temperature), and got worse leading I assume from it melting the bullets.

I agree. I've gone to Titegroup for plated and jacketed, but still using HP38/231 for lead in .45 and .38.
The OP specified he was just interested in Titegroup.

Tested 3.7 titegroup in ACP & AR cases with 185 SWC, 225 RN & TC in several S&Ws (M25 Jovino, M625). Also shot the 225s in stock RP97. ALL functioned fine and grouped very good at 10-15 yards.

I tried the 4.2 grs of TG.
It shot well, and was quite accurate, but damn was the gun dirty after my range session. Not leading, but black and sooty.
I did not have that problem with 5 grns.
Would this be caused by too low of pressure in the loads?

FWIW, I also run the 4.5-4.6 grains of TiteGroup behind 230 grn plated round nose bullets. And yes, my guns are dirty after shooting. Nothing a little CLP can't cure.
Both guns (Sig 1911 and Glock 36) like that load, and the extra cleanup is worth it to me.
