Hey all, I've got a dilemna. I have an opportunity to buy a S&W model 66 no dash.

Seller has given me first dibs on it, and I'm sure if I pass it will be gone promptly. As a package deal, he has two speedloaders and a leather galco holster for total of $650. I told him I didn't need the holster as I already have one, and as for the speedloaders I'm not in a hurry..so don't need those either. Waiting on his reply.
I've always wanted a 66, especially if it were a duty piece..this one isn't. Problem is, I've also always wanted a 19, but the bluing has to be near perfect and as always..P&R. What do y'all think? Should I jump on this one or wait?

that seem like a decent deal to me, but if you prefer a duty piece you could probable find one for a couple hundred dollars less.

That looks like an early one with the stainless sights. I think that I would go for it if it was in nice shape.

I would move faster if the price was $100 cheaper, but you only live once right? ;)

Thanx for the reply. But, I said I always wanted a 66, ESPECIALLY (not preferably) if it were a duty piece. Essentially, if it had police markings..GREAT! But not on my "must haves" list. I also believe the asking price is reasonable, but would prefer to lower it w/o the extras not needed by me. Keep 'em coming.

IMO the accessories don't add any real value to the package, but can be sold for a few dollars to offset the cost. I have watched the prices on these climb over the last couple years and if it is in as good a condition as it looks like in the pictures, I would buy it.

While it may be priced at the top of the market right now, is it worth losing it for what amounts to a few dollars?

Pro: it looks to be in pretty nice shape, it is an early production model with the silver stainless sights, and in the current crazed buying frenzy I would call the price reasonable.

Con: it isn't what you seek from what you stated.

Pass on it and wait for what you want, if you are that certain.

I think it is a $550-dollar revolver at today's market price. The seller probably added the extra $100 for the holster & speedloaders, which you can sell here in the classified section. I would go for it.

Just sent PM with offer of $600 shipped w/o the holster/speedloaders. If he goes for it, great. But if not I won't lose any sleep over it.

If it's not what you want PASS..... unless you have the money to buy & stash and seek what you really WANT.

If you buy it, planning to sell it whan you find what you want, and continue to look you might just break even with shipping and FFL fees.

That is exactly what I would have done. Early 66's have gone up recently, and the nice ones will keep on going. If you get it, you will have an excellent shooting classic revolver along with a fine investment.

$600 for a 66 in really good shape, w/ the stainless rear sight, seems a little high, but not outrageous. I'd get it...

Just remember, you didn't spend too much, you just bought it early!

the way i always look at it is if the gun is within a $100-ish of what i would consider a good deal, i get it if i want it. i can drop $100 taking my family out to dinner and a movies. next month no one will remember that dinner, but in 20 years someone will appreciate the fact that i bought that gun. and you can shoot the heck out of it in the meantime.

I have $400 in one that obviously had been holstered a lot with Pachmeyer's, looked like a LE gun. It was in good shape and had a great action, no dings or scratches, holster wear. Your picture is of a gun in much better condition and with target grips, probably original. I'd say your gun is fairly priced.

The seller closed the thread, gun sold to someone else. Even if it was priced right, I put my best offer I felt comfortable on the table. I'll resume my quest now for that model 19 in my dreams now.
