I am a newbie to the M&P line of pistols and hope I'm not beating a dead horse here but....
I am wanting a pistol to start some IDPA shooting. I have ditched my G34 and have narrowed it down to trying the full size M&P.
I need help deciding if its worth the extra money to go with the Pro model or just stick with the stock full size. Other than the Pro's slightly longer barrel/sight radius, is the trigger sear that much better in the Pro? Does the Pro shoot better?
There's about $110 price difference at my dealer.

What do yall recommend?

I shoot a Pro 9 5" in IDPA SSP, and recommend it highly. It is similar to the G34 setup.

I had the advantage of being able to shoot everybody else's different setups before buying, and decided I didn't need an APEX trigger mod (if I got a good factory trigger). The Pro 9 comes with FO front sight, lighter trigger (mine settled down at about 4 1/4#), and flat black rear sight (which I prefer).
I don't like the tall iron sights on the CORE version, and I need the FO front, so I would have to modify the base model.

Unless you plan to strip off the sights and mod the trigger, the Pro 9 5" comes range-ready for IDPA/SSP.

One thing about the M&P trigger: when new, some feel gritty, which is mostly the striker block. You can either do some polishing, or just clean and shoot until it settles down.

I am new to M&P also. I started with a XDM 5.25 9mm, then a Glock 17. I got a Pro 9mm and love it. I sold the XDM and got another 9mm pro, I going to mod and leave the other stock. I sold Glock and got a 9mm Shield. I am all M&P now. Like OKFC05 said the pro comes with $100.00 set of sight, and better trigger. I think is worth the extra money.

Thanks for the advice. I went ahead and ordered me a Pro in 9MM.
Now the agony of waiting till it gets here!!

A buddy who participates in local matches went with the pro and says he would make the same choice again.

Good choice, I'm confident you will be pleased with your purchase. I got a Pro 9 with the 5 inch barrel about two months ago and I'm extremely happy with it so far. The Pro 9 trigger is a world away from how my 40C came from the factory that's for sure. I bought mine to dabble in IDPA as well and considered the same decision points along the way as you and have no regrets whatsoever. I hope you enjoy it when it comes home.

If you don't mind me asking why did u ditched your G34?, the reason I'm asking is that I'm considering getting one to go along with my pro.

There was nothing wrong with my G34. I got it thinking it would be different than my older G17. I could not tell enough difference between the two to own both.
