To those of you with suppressors

IDK the answer to your question on the form 3 as i have not actually bought from the intranet, as my LGS has a vast assortment of cans in stock, or you can get the display's that are locked in the case and barely handled.
i have read over on silencertalk that it is very easy to buy online and that all the paperwork is done for you, they say free, but it is prolly transferred into the cost of the can.

the reasoning behind buying online now, would be to save the state and local sales tax which is around 10% here, but then you may have to pay a transfer fee to your LGS......so 6 and 1/2 dozen of the other. I just thought 19 weeks is a long time to get a certain can from the distributer.
maybe you should just get one that is comparable that they have in stock.

NFA is running even slower, called yesterday to see if the ones i have in line have gone pending and he said all 3 went pending on May 6th. so now you go 6 months from pending date equals Oct-Nov depending how you count. friggin ridiculous.

Wait times are getting longer

OOPS!! I meant FORM 3!!

I had to wait 2 months on a Form 3. It's taking 2 months now just for items to go pending from when your check is cashed . You can call to check on the status of the Form 3. To verify that the dealer you purchased from actually had the item and submitted a Form 3 to the ATF.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you purchase online, don't you still have to go thru the form 3 process of transferring the suppressor to a local class 3 dealer? Granted, it should not take 19+ weeks, but there still is a delay. Only way I know to get going immediately is to purchase directly from a class 3 dealer that has what you want in inventory. That is what I did.

Right. I bought my Sparrow from Silencer Shop. Took about 4 weeks to transfer to my dealer. 19 weeks sounds like there's more to the story.

I am going to try to get a trust completed and purchase a suppressor by the end of the year. I have been looking at the Sparrow, the Spectre II and the Surefire. I have not made up my mind yet but quietness is my biggest buying factor.

I am curious as to what ones you are using, but more curious about the ammo. Do you use sub sonic rounds in your 1522 suppressed? Do they cycle the action well? How quiet is the gun suppressed with standard velocity rounds?

I run an AAC Element. I use mostly CCI Sub-Sonic, but any match grade ammo in the 1,050 fps range works quite well. The can will actually improve the cycling, due to the increased gas blow back pressure. (At least it does in my weapons.) Noise is limited pretty much to the mechanical noise of the bolt closure.

The suppressor would also be used on my Ruger 22-45 Lite. From what I understand you can use standard velocity rounds in pistols because of the shorter barrel.

Correct. Pistol barrels are so short that any round, regardless of spec, does not have time to go supersonic.

Am getting the YHM-3200 - Ti (Phantom) for the .223 SBR and will also use it on my Ruger 10-22 and maybe a Ruger 22/45 Lite. Wish the ATF was a little quicker with OKing the trust and sending the stamp back in a timely manner.

My 15-22 with a Silencerco Sparrow SS

Hey everyone. I'm adding my pics as well. This is my 15-22 with a Silencerco Sparow SS.

i find that when shooting suppressed in my garage, that my 15-22 is more quiet than any of the .22 pistols shot in the same place. all are using sub sonic ammo, could be FRP, but i can shoot any of my 10-22's or 15-22's more quiet than the pistols. strange.

Does anyone know which examiners cover which states? According the the nfatracker.com site, there have been 14 examiners working over the past 6 months. There is a ton of info on this site, but none of it will make you get excited. I listed my info a month ago. Not sure why a couple examiners are faster, but it also stands out who drags their feet.

22 weeks now. The other semi local shop has them both on the shelf do tomorrow I am getting my deposit back and going with the other shop. SOMEONE has screwed up for sure. Will not be going back into the first shop again. I am pretty sure it was them that made the mistake. If only they had just fessed up in the first place. I could be over four months into my form four.

this is a list of who does what states:
GEOGRAPHIC DISTRIBUTION OF NFA APPLICATIONS FOR PROCESSING BY ATF - NFA Gun Trust Lawyer Blog

Just for reference, the NFA tracker, last time i checked, was out of order permanently and was not being maintained.
I just read that the BATF just dropped their hiring freeze and it looks like they put in some more examiners since the original 10. i just saw over at govjobs that the positions have been filled since last year.

my only beef is that there should be a more efficient, but we are talking about the GOV now) way of processing form 4's between trusts/llc's/inc.s etc and individual forms. Individuals would inherently take longer since you actually have to investigate someone, the other, there is nothing to investigate....rubber stamp and it's on its way after a cursery NCIS check.

I just know my last 3 have taken exactly 6 months from PENDING date to get to me.

The NFA Tracker here: NFATracker.com ATF Form 1 and Form 4 Tracking website seems to be working. At leas people can create an account, update their own data, download a spreadsheet of results, etc. I'm not sure that anyone is making nice graphs and interpreting the data for you, but the data is there.

Thanks roadkill45 for the list of states. I don't know whether I should be happy or sad to see that my examiner also has NY, NJ and Delaware. I am sure she must have to take extra caution with apps from those areas. That was good news about the extra examiners being hired. This is my first form four and the wait time is painful. When I eventually get my second suppressor, I will be able to deal with the waiting better. I will already have one!! The second one will be for .40/9mm. I will budget $675 +$200 for that purchase.

best bet is just to forget about it! The last tracker had the average times of approval for each examiner. i don't see how Joe Schmo and Ann Feltner can have different times, some by months, i can see maybe a week or two.
most people don't want to hassle with a trust, that is what takes the individual 4 so long. A trust is easy with Quicken Willmaker. I made mine up, took it to my lawyer/judge that lives down the street and she went over it and it was fine, that was a long time back and mine are always approved.

WOW. Have us poor Brits found something that we have an advantage with??? Almost every one I know who goes through the trauma of gaining a Firearms Certificate this side of the pond is advised to apply for a Moderator/Suppressor. These are so easy to get by comparison. Looks like there is at least 2 advantages to living this side of the pond. 2nd being there appears o be no shortage of .22 ammo here at the moment.

yeah rub it in!!!! i used to live over there and a can was a breeze to get, as military so was buying a gun at the rod and gun club!! now if you wanted to hunt, that was going to cost some cash as a GI but the gun and can were easy to obtain.....now how did i get them across the pond.....????? oh yeah, that was the boat that sank and they were lost at sea!!!

Wait Times

You guys thinking 6 months for a form 4 are dreaming. Since Newtown wait times have been as high as 15 months with a low of 9 months for paper filed forms. That was before Obama announced his EO intended to close the trust/corporation "loophole".

Also, before anyone blast these 10 guys/gals look up how many total requests they process each year.

New Subsonic Ammo

Gem-Tech, yes the same people that make suppressors, has come out with their own brand of subsonic 22LR ammo. It cycled flawlessly in my 15-22, 10-22 and 22/45 Lite, all unsuppressed. Still waiting on my stamps. Paid about $50 a brick if I remember correctly.

yep before my last set of stamps came in i had called and they stated 15 months after it goes pending!!! There are only 9 examiners IIRC and there is a US state division on who has what states. AZ has Ann Feltner and she takes one of the longest times. My 3 form 4's that i had sent in at the same time all came back at 7 months, but they were already pending when the craziness began, hence the shorter wait than now.
It's nutz!!

Finally received the approval for my Silencerco Sparrow!!! (woo hoo)

Time line....
8/5/13: Sent in paperwork using trust
9/15/13: Went pending
6/15/14: Approval received by dealer

In my case it was 9 months from pending to approval. Can't wait to hit the range on Friday and get it dirty.
