My husbands Macbook laptop did the same thing when the battery swelled after a few years. If you have a desktop computer USB keyboard and mouse, you could try that.

Here is something that worked for others experiencing your issue:

See if this works: Here is the fix for the keyboard malfunction:
1- Turn off computer, disconnect the power cord, remove the battery.
2- Press the Power On button for 10 seconds
3- Replace battery and/or connect power cord.
4- Turn On computer + immediately press F2 key repeatedly
5- Press F9 then press Enter
6- Press F10 then press Enter

If that didn't work, was there any behavior or activity like updates that preceded the problem.

The cat didn't walk across the keyboard, huh? I have heard things like that in the past.

As for me, I have a Microsoft wireless keyboard & mouse hooked up to the laptop (and an external monitor).

There's probably a Toshiba laptop user forum somewhere on the internet, maybe several of them, which may be more helpful in finding the light at the end of the tunnel for you. I am now using a Toshiba Satellite laptop which is about 8 years old, and never had a single problem with it. And I have experienced several instances of my cats doing the foxtrot on my keyboard which messed things up.

I have that same model, and I have a 22" monitor and wireless keyboard & mouse hooked up to it. The actual keyboard only gets used when I travel. It's been a good one, very little problem, but I know it's showing it's age with some of these high def pictures, and really busy websites taking a fair amount of time. Just isn't as quick as it used to be. I'll be looking to upgrade sometime this year.

Aloha,

In the news a while ago.

Major Scandal in Toshiba computing area.

7,000 people released.

Computing division Sold to China.

No more Toshiba computers.

Don't know what those of us with them are in for.

Doesn't sound like a software issue to me either. I'm replying right now on an older Toshiba Satellite. If it ever acts like that or otherwise craps out, I won't dump any money into it, I'll just get a new one.

Right now I am on a Toshiba A215 Satellite, bought 10 years ago.

My only complaints are that it runs Vista and can't be economically upgraded.

Noticing how slow it is compared to the home desktop though.

maybe 10 yrs.old. never had a problem w/ it. have an extra monitor downstairs. thanks for the suggetions. any thoughts about the recovery discs? this cpu, a HP, only 4 years old, 2 hard drives replaced, seems to be takeing a dive. thanks again for input.

When I see your reference to Service Pack 1 & 2, it makes me think you are taking about Windows XP. If that is the case Microsoft no longer supports XP, so you probably are going to have a difficult time finding the updates. If it originally came with Vista or an older OS, buy a new machine.

Press the FN key and check the line up of options at top of screen. See if one of them toggles built-in keyboard/external keyboard.
