This is a special day for our military K-9 soldiers.

Without our military K-9s, keeping the peace and keeping American military personnel safe would be a lot harder.

Keep in mind, too, that so many of these brave dogs have given their life to protect their best-friend-soldier-handler over the years. You may read about some of them by clicking here.

The same is true, of course, for the dogs used by federal and local law enforcement. Without them, some brave law enforcement officers wouldn't be alive today, and that's a fact.

So maybe pause for a moment to be thankful for these brave dogs.

They deserve our utmost love and respect.

Man do they deserve one for what they do.

They deserve so much. All of them deserve a good home after their retirement. And I think those dogs who served in combat deserve a good home...preferably with their handler if they want the dog. And they deserve a retirement when they come home, not years more of service until they're too old to have much time left on this earth.

I could go on and on about this, because it's something I feel very strongly about.

Thanks for bringing this to the forefront.

All too often the efforts of those keeping the peace are taken for granted.

A lot of people take these military dogs for granted. The Army treats them as disposable property after they've supposedly outlived their usefulness. I won't go into detail about it here...the facts are easily found in a simple Internet search.

Sergeant David Heyhoe got this tattoo to honor and remember his great bomb detection dog

Dogs is just good people.

This would be a sadder world without them.

It's and old saying but I sure agree with it.

"I hope I am as good a person as my dog thinks I am."

I would hope the same thing for myself, but pretty sure that goal is out of reach for me.

But as long as my dogs think I'm a good person, I'm okay with that.
