During my weekly visit to the Vegas Bass Pro, I spotted this cherry, 1981 Colt Series 70 Gold Cup National Match. $996 OTD
The gun is like new; probably fired but very little. Came with the owner’s manual, OEM Colt mag and 7 Wilson Combat 47D mags.

I’d buy it over the new one

With few exceptions, the only Colt 1911 that interests me is the Series 70 GCNM, that are pre 1983. Interestingly, they recently had a similarly conditioned 1983 Series 80 GCNM with the new 3 hole aluminum trigger, firing pin safety for $1800. I know the chap that prices the used guns. I don’t say anything, I just smile, fill out the 4473 and say thank you.

Very nice, keep an eye on the pin on the front sight> They tend to work loose.

I do have a Series 80 GC. By that time, they were just Government Models with wide triggers and adjustable sights, at least IMO. But, the previous owner had a full blown conventional bullseye "accuracy job" by a long gone guy named Jack Best. Kart barrel, full tightening, etc. I have the Ransom rest test target. Amazing. I'm nowhere near that good, but nice to know what it's capable of.

I used to shoot with some hard-core Bullseye shooters (like annual trek to Perry, etc.) Even though I had no idea who Jack Best was, they did. They told me if I didn't buy the gun please tell them who was selling it. I bought it, never regretted it. Still have it!

Bought a similar one last week in about the same condition, but mine was in .38Special and was the “mid-range” model. Wish that I could have purchased it at that price, but I had to pay considerably more. All of them are enjoyable to shoot.

I have a GCNM Series 70 made in '77 that I bought with a Colt Conversion Unit in .22LR. It has been at least 10 years ago and paid $1K for them. I bought a Colt Mid Range a few years ago and had a custom M1911 in .38 Special. Then I bought a S&W 52 and sold the Mid Range (to a Forum member) as it was one of three in that caliber. Enjoy your pistols gentleman.
