Today's gunshow - it was a zoo

Sooooooo .....

I certainly didn't need a gunshow this weekend after what I bought yesterday. Jr. found a guy with some stuff and couldn't go because he was working. I went to see the man and came home with:

1) Mod 57 4" nickel P&R

2) Mod 14-3 8/38" blue

3) Mod 27-2 8 3/8" nickel

4) Mod 25-5 8 3/8" blue

All of them appeared unfired with slight turn rings. Some have tools and papers. Boxes are not correct even though the 25 & 27 came in the wood presentation boxes with replaced liners. I didn't pay gunshow prices either. I'm keeping the 57 & 14. I haven't decided about the others. Jr. and I are going back up there this afternoon to look at some other stuff. The guy raises several different varieties of pure bred chickens also which is a plus for us because we're almost ready for some new ones. Have you ever had two thousand chickens run up to you wanting something to eat? When we leave there we're gonna go hit the buffet at one of the casins on the coast. Another interesting day.

So didja git that Nickle 25-5? What barrel length is it?

I thought briefly about going to the Tanner show here in Denver, but knowing the prices and the crowd of people just wanting to buy a gun, any gun, just due to the panic made me just stay home.

I can see the idiot now, bought a new revolver, practicing quick draw in front of mirror and shooting his d*** off.

Going to skip 'em for awhile.

Dick, I seldom go to gun shows. Now since all this new gun law push I have read of outlandish prices on the "assult stuff and related stuff. But have you also seen prices also going up on the nice classic collector stuff or is that lagging? If my collector stuff is also going out of sight it might be time to start thinning some of my stuff. But I assume the talk is more about the assult stuff. Those type people arent into or appriciate my classic smiths, colts and winchesters, right?

The next big Dallas Mkt. Hall show is Jan 4-5. I'll be at tables F-20-21. If you are in the area stop by, sit a spell, an we'll laugh and point at the newbies.

There is a big show in at the Will Rogers Colosseum this weekend. I didn't go today but the 6:00pm news had a segment that reported that it was the busiest day in the 40 year history of the show.

They had a piece on the gunshow here in Vegas this weekend. At 1pm they still had a 20 minute line of folk to get tickets and the lines for ammo were stupid. According to guys they interviewed outside the Tacticool sellers had pretty much doubled the prices on everything. The show organiser said that the ammo vendors told him they might be out of the popular stuff by Sunday lunch.

One guy posted on a local for sale board with this title. Great spelling.

GUN SHOW - PURE INSANE 2.5 HOUR WAIT - MASSIVE LINE ( HIGH PRICES) COMPLETE HISTARIA

I thought Histaria was what grew on a garden trellis, but then again I don't have a green thumb.:D

I can't say selling prices have changed. The asking prices on old guns is just stupid. My normal table pard and I were just walking around, kind of complaining like so many posters here. We pulled up at a table with some older Smiths. One was a presentable M&P with a 673,000s serial. That one is in my interest range, so we looked at the price. The fool wanted $850 for it. A couple of years ago it would have been $350, and probably worth maybe $500 given today's market conditions.

So all I can say is even the guys who don't have tacti cool stuff have starry eyes and want to retire on the new profits. Its a good time to be a seller, a bad time to be a buyer.

What a bunch of whiners!!!
Go to a gun show to LOOK , not walk by with your hands in you pants, and to BUY.
It's not just a social event. Kick out the jewelry and candle sales. If it's not gun related don't allow them in. If you don't look you won't find. There are nice pieces here and there.

When I go I look for the folks walking around with stuff. I'll wait for a dealer to lowball them and then offer a little more if it's something I want. Recently I decided to sit at the front door with one of the off duty deputies who tied the guns before they went in and talk to him while waiting on Jr. to come out of the show. A guy comes up with a real nice Victory and I bought it before he got the ties put on. A few minutes later a guy comes in with a nice Garand bayonet and I put it in the bag with the Victory. I soon realized I didn't have enough money with me to sit there much longer so I left after I bought the Ithaca riot gun. I may try this again sometime when I'm feeling rich.

I havent bought a gun at a show in over 26 years. I will go to talk to some friends and people watch. Cant wait to see if RBURG is real or just a figment. I took my Daughter last show in Lexington. Bought three books and just pretty much people watched. Showed my Daughter what I was looking for and she helped out. Stuff was out of my reach in the funds department. But hearing what she had to say about the people was awesome, almost like going to the mall. Still havent decided if we are going to the show next week or not because of all the crazies and stupid people out there.

Must be nice.
The shows around here, none of the cops that check the guns nor their friends dare try and buy anything before it gets inside to the dealers.
Those that hang around the front and try to intercept people coming in are branded gun "Hawks" and warned and then thrown out of the show, sometimes for life.

I've heard the folklore and have read the multiple sighting posts of said rburg. Heck, I was even tricked into thinking I had met him once. I feel we will never know for sure... We will never truly be able to confirm nor deny his existence.

At the Louisville show maybe 5 or so years ago Lee bribed some good lookin' guy to say he was me. That was back when Lee was kind of human (before the transition to being a big monkey). I think the next show we'll recruit a half dozen guys to say they're me. Just for fun. Once about 30 years ago I even introduced a buddy's wife as my own. She put up with it at the time, then when my wife and the buddy showed up there was a lot of confusion.

Me'n Joe will be there, as always. Might even have our new friend, Ben at the table with us. He's discovered the forum and he's been posting a little. I have no idea what to expect next week. If it was allowed I'd take along a camera.

Didn't really like your post so much as wanted to get you out from that triple six stigma. :)

Dick,

I'll be there along with some watches and maybe even some loose movements :)

Joe called me yesterday and told me much the same story as you've presented here about the Louisville show-I'm glad I didn't go!

I went to the one in Houston today...

Not much ammo, lots of EBR's at $$$$$$$$$$$, crowd started coming in as i was leaving. I did do one thing while I was there, though...

I finally joined the NRA.
