Things are not looking good today. Those of you who are in the know is it time to add some more Water, Bullets and Toilet Paper to the inventory?

Putting a little extra $$ in the safe. These are interesting times we live in.

Nah, just a few unnamed billionaires taking profits and getting the sheep to sell so they (the billionaires) can buy low and start the process all over again. I used to think the stock market reflected real world things but I don't think so anymore.

Tomorrow or next week it will be up and all of the world "problems" will be unchanged.

China's perpetually volatile market is up some 70% for the year, down 30% for the last month is all. And most of their best companies trade in exchanges outside of China. Look at what China's markets did back in 2007-08; by comparison present conditions are not as dramatic as they may seem.
Greece would be much better off if Germany would pay back the money it "borrowed" from Greece in WWII, 11 Billion Euros (half of what was "borrowed" which, in the early '50's, they had agreed to pay back but never did).
I'm no financial expert but let calm prevail.

I just don't understand the hidden factors that really drive the stock market. My broker keeps telling me that the market is an excellent long term investment and I should just hang in. He may be right but at my age I'm not long term, anymore.
Now the funny thing is, most of the stocks and mutual funds bought at his suggestion are just breaking even at best. Now the three mutual finds I picked myself using a self service company have had an excellent returns for the three years I've owned them. If I remember correctly someone once said that monkeys throwing darts were as able to pick winning stocks as well or better than most brokers.

It's a casino and there's no reason for most of these stocks to be up, except maybe the cash pumped in by the Fed. A good crash is overdue to return to a fundamental value. It's a big game and not for the little guy who they have sucked in and picked clean.

Is being "austere"; the thing that some of the people of Greece are NOT going to do; the same thing an "alleged" 47% of the people of another country are also not going to do ??

NYSE is still out of commission. TV reports are indicating the beginnings of speculation that there's been a major hack, and that the United Airlines and Wall Street Journal computer malfunctions this morning are related.

The main concern is if Greece talks its way out of repaying its obligations, then Portugal, Italy, Ireland, and Spain will rapidly follow suit. "Hey, you guys let Greece do it - why not us?"

Then there's Puerto Rico, another socialist economy on the brink of insolvency. And they also are now demanding Uncle Sucker (us) bail them out.

Per CNN, United Airlines, NYSE, and the Wall Street Journal are all down with computer glitches.

Again per CNN, "White House briefing at any moment"

I think it may be time to make several ATM runs...

Added: Just got back from my branch bank, which is normally slow midday/midweek, there were 6 folks in line ahead of me, it appeared if everyone was getting cash. Interesting. I also noted that on-line account access at Fidelity and Wells Fargo Advisers were slow to log onto and access my account information.

We know China has the technical ability to hack the Office of Personnel Management database.

Then (unrelated) the China stock market crashes.

Today, the NYSE closes down due to "technical difficulties." As of this writing it is still not up. Does anyone think these things are NOT related?

I'm going through a divorce and my wife and her attorney are raping me on stocks and IRAs anyhow. I'm glad now I did put that cash away in a safe place unless it too becomes worthless.
I guess then I'll have to settle on what the silver and guns and ammo are worth but wouldn't you know it they're going after those too.
I guess if I do become broke in all this my only satisfaction will be she will be too.
