TOMORROW IS GROUNDHOG DAY

IT'S GROUNDHOG DAY!!!

I recently remember your sporting picture with something to do about Punxsutawney Phil; very cool; Please update us in the am

PS: got any idea what Phils hit or miss percentage is?

Per Janice Dean, the meteorologist from Fox & Friends, Phil is always correct. She made the trip to Gobbler's Knob.

Phil emerged from his stump on Gobbler's Knob before the multitudes of his adoring friends. In the dialect of Groundhogese, known only to Phil and the president of the Groundhog Club, he directed Jeff Lundy, the Fair Weatherman of the Inner Circle of the Groundhog Club, to the scroll with the proper prognostication, in which Phil declared, "There is no shadow of me, a beautiful early spring it shall be." So it is official, spring is just around the corner.

With Groundhog Day on a weekend, it was wall to wall people at Gobbler's Knob. I remember being there one year where the estimate was a crowd of 40,000 people, which was a reasonable estimate as there were 38,000 bus tickets printed for transportation to Gobbler's Knob, and all of the tickets were used.

It's gonna be in the 60's & 70's in N Alabama next week. I'll be headed down south close to the Florida line wrapping up deer season. They said the rut is late and they're still chasing. It'll sure enough feel like spring down there. Plan on taking the fishing rods too.:)

The first time I got North of the Little Muddy - The Ohio -
Was amazed at how big those things were -
And was double amazed when told some folks ate them!
When I made fun of those Buckeye Bozos -
They reminded me - You Southerners eat Possums and Coons!
Touché Jose !

I just spoke to one of the members of the Inner Circle. He said the crowd was in the top 4 or 5 of all time in size.

I used to do live radio reports from Gobbler's Knob for a radio station in Frederick, MD. That allowed me to get into the press paddock up close. One year it was time to bring Phil out. The handler, Bill Deeley, opened up the stump and reached in but there was no Phil brought out. The next thing I see is dirt flying up in the air, handful after handful. Finally the handler reached into the stump clear up to his shoulder and brought Phil out. Of course, the Inner Circle is sweating bullets because the ceremony was on a live feed to CNN. The speculation is the noise from the fireworks show scared Phil and the bottom of the stump had rotted, so Phil was tunneling so he could make a run for it. Phil's stump now has a concrete floor.

Guilty on all three counts.

On different occasions I have had all three in stew form. They wouldn't be my first choices but if they were the only offerings on the menu, I could do them again.

The trick is choosing the right scuppernong wine.

Reminds me of a bowl of “sopa de pollo” I had...I fished a bone out about halfway through and I had to ask the waiter “what sort of chicken bone is this?”

GHog day here in SE Ohio. 6" of snow and sunny and clear. If he don't see his shadow he's blind. GHog shooting was big around these parts. Lots of people eat ground hog. The best are the young ones if you are just going to fry them. Sportsmen clubs have GHog feeds. Members clean their kills
and stash them in club freezer. They par boil them and then fix them several different ways. Ghogs are Vegitarians, nothing dirty about them.
I have had baked possum, coon fixed several ways and Beaver once. I would rather have GHog than any off the above. People use to eat these animals all the time. Any more there are less people around that eat or know how to prepare them. People use to eat crows and woodpeckers. I
have a old game cook book with chapter on Skunk, a toothsome meat according to book. I think I'll pass on that. Anymore you have to worry more about the diseases animals may have. Hardly anyone around my area eats duck, frog legs and suckers anymore. When I was a kid this stuff was tradition. Now if you can't get it at a drive up window it's no good.

I went to the outdoor range....

We went yesterday. 60 degrees and sunny with some clouds. GORGEOUS day at the range. Now if that will keep up.

Bad news though. After the gov shutdown our controversial and much talked about Boggy Head Rifle Range remains closed and is probably not going to be here much longer.

Why? They are tired of people taking appliances like refrigerators, microwaves and anything else out there, shooting them up and leaving them.

The idiots have always run Boggy Head. I have a mind to start a 'Save Boggy Head From The Idiots' campaign.

Yeah ashame rw. My club put up cameras 2 years back because of people shooting up old TVs, radios, and even propane tanks. Cost a lot to haul this stuff off. If the EPA sees stuff like this they can shut the place down.
