Just someone's opinion and in some cases it looks like they just threw a bunch of random film titles in a hat and pulled some out and the order of their ratings is way out of whack in my opinion. but it is on msn so that might explain it.

Although there are some on this list being considered a western is really a stretch, several of my favorites are in this list.

pat garrett and billy the kid
hombre
shane
little big man
the professionals
lonely are the brave
true grit, both versions, i prefer the remake.
the searchers
the wild bunch
unforgiven

there are many others i like but i'm not going to list them all.

what are your choices?

Strange list!
Lots of them aren’t Westerns!
When I see a list like this, I think it was compiled by somebody who isn’t a western fan and really hasn’t seen seen that many Westerns.
Especially over and over like many of us.
It’s like having Ringo compile a list of the best Ballet Movie.

Wow they have Once Upon a Time in the West as the greatest western of all time??? Django Unchained #2???

Ranked over,
#58 Destry Rides Again......the one with James Stewert, in my top 15.
#54 Shane......in my top 15.
#46 Winchester 73......in my top 15.
#21 Stagecoach......in my top 10.
#20 Outlaw Josey Wales......2 on my list.
#15 The Searchers......number 1 on my list.
#14 High Noon
#13 The Ox Bow Incident......in my top 10.
#12 The Man who shot Liberty Valance......the highest John Wayne western? In my top 5.
#11 Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid......in my top 10.
#9. Unforgiven......in my top 10.

Obviously a list put together by someone who needs to be putting together lists about other things. Django Unchained rated higher than Unforgiven, higher than Liberty Valance, The Searchers, John Wayne no higher than #12??? come on.

I love all the old standards but the kinda' alternative westerns like "My Name Is Nobody" with Terrance Hill and Henry Fonda, my favorite. Terrance Hill and Bud Spencer were in several others I enjoy watching online. Somewhat corny, but entertaining to me. Also look up "The Rounders" with Henry Fonda and Glenn Ford. Simple, corny, but a great movie.

That list is just totally out of whack...just impossible for me to take seriously.

I'm not sure if there are truly one hundred western films that would rank among the best. With a list that long, you may have to dip into the sorrier westerns; some of the "B"s and the Clint Eastwood-type westerns as opposed to top-notch stuff like the original "3:10 To Yuma" or "The Gunfighter" (just examples, not personal top favorites).

It's hard to beat a Glenn Ford western. Don't know how many are top 100, but I favor: The Sheepman, The Fastest Gun Alive, and The Violent Men. The western I've watched the most, El Dorado cause it's been on the most.

Oh my GOD-if I get started???? Mine is a constantly revolving list and HAS to be.

Stagecoach.
Rio Grande.
The Searchers.
Fort Apache.
Hondo.
Vera Cruz.
Winchester 73.
The Professionals.
Arrowhead.
Ambush.
The Outlaw Josey Wales.

11-I can't count........

Etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc..............

I loathe someone's (published) list as about 90% of their choices-well-for lack of better words-just flat out suck. AMC and others often do that and some one has a twisted idea on what a good Western is.

I like westerns, primarily John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, although not his spaghetti westerns. I did like the 3:10 to Yuma remake (with Russell Crowe) better than the original. The Wild Bunch is a favorite too, as well as Hombre. Open Range and The Magnificent Seven are pretty good too.

:D:D I love ya and wish the mods would arrange a special 10 likes button for you, Rusty, Jack and a few others. :D

Wasn't there a very similar thread here just a few weeks ago and another a few weeks before that?

Not complaining as this one is always interesting to the western movie fans and not as dull as the all too frequent +P and Lee Factory Crimp Die threads.

Here’s some of mine....

High Noon
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence
Open Range
Broken Trail
Tombstone
I forgiven
Pale Rider
The Outlaw Josie Wales
Cheyenne Social Club
Shenandoah
The Wild Bunch
The Magnificent Seven
Tom Horn
Nevada Smith
Hidalgo

Just a few, that I really like!

Valdez Is Coming
Ulzana's Raid

Both with Burt Lancaster

I often cite Ulzana's Raid as one of the most
accurate depictions of Apache warfare. As
pointed out by Lancaster, Ulzana wan't seeking
to fight the cavalry troopers, just kill them.

Here's my top 10:
10. Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. 1973 by Sam Peckinpah
09. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. 1966 A little too long.
08. The Outlaw Joesy Wales. 1976 Clint starred and directed.
07. Wild Bill with Jeff Bridges. 1995 Reasonably true.
06. Once Upon a Time In The West. Henry Fonda is a very bad dude.
05. The Westerner Cooper's best work in my opinion. Walter Brennan too.
04. Lonesome Dove in 1989 TV mini-series.
03. A draw: Tombstone 1993 and Wyatt Earp 1994. Tombstone was a
little too exagerated and Wyatt Earp was too long.
02. Unforgiven from 1992. Best picture. Best Director.
01. And finally a drum roll for the best damn western ever.
The Shootist. Great story and cast. The Doc (Jimmy Stewart)
tells Books (John Wayne) being the brave man he is, he should
not die this kind of death. (Cancer) John Wayne was himself
terminal with cancer. He didn't die that way in the movie. He
engaged the bad guys in one last great gun battle.
