Not a movie, but the miniseries Lonesome Dove. Also Open Range. Hard to beat anything with Robert Duvall.

Also a big Duvall fan.
Just the other day, watched “ A Night In Old Mexico.”
Not one of his best!
I like him in a lot of things,
He may be at his best in Lonesome Dove.

Harvey Girls?
Really?
Do you folks know who were the Harvey Girls?
They were Waitress Ladies recruited by the Harvey House Restaurants who had locations at railroad stops all over the South West.
Fred Harvey decided to improve the food and service.
So he recruited ladies and assigned then to numerous locations, including several here in NM.
The ladies agreed to a pretty rigid dress code and behavior code.
It’s certainly an interesting facet of our SW history.
No necessarily valid on this list.

The Cowboys.
The Outlaw Josey Wales.
The Magnificent Seven.
The Man from Snowy River.

For some humor with Terence Hill and all but one with Bud Spencer.

They Call Me Trinity.
Trinity Is Still My Name.
My Name Is Nobody. No Bud Spencer.
The Troublemakers AKA The Night Before Christmas. Hill and Spencer again playing brothers who are so similar to Trinity and Bambino as can be.

High Noon.
Shane.
Lonesome Dove.
Unforgiven.
The Wild Bunch.
True Grit(both versions are good but I prefer the 2010 one.).

Depends on your definition of what a western movie is. At least The Harvey Girls movie was set in the West during the 19th Century, so it technically is a western. But no gunfights, outlaw chases, or Indian attacks are in it, at least I don't remember any. The movie shows up on TCM occasionally, with Judy Garland. Worthwhile if you haven't seen it, or are a Judy Garland fan, but not one to watch repeatedly. I'd agree it shouldn't be on a top 100 westerns list.

Another fine and entertaining but short lived series of TV movie westerns was Hec Ramsey with Richard Boone. In many ways Hec was a Palladine type character who was skilled with fist and firearm but also used intelligence and science in solving the cases.

i DO like....

I DO like the spaghetti westerns. Especially, The Good, The Bad and the Ugly and Fistful of Dollars. I'll go along with any other Clint westerns here.

Once Upon A Time In the West was great with an EVIL Henry Fonda.

The Shootist with John Wayne is a real favorite of mine. True Grit was not only a great western, but a great movie overall. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence needs no plug from me.

Hondo is my favorite Louis L'Amour adaptations.

Is Jeremiah Johnson a western? It's in the west, it's got Indians.

How about A Man Called Horse. Great movie and that scene of the Sun Dance is unbelievable.

In the comedy category: Blazing Saddles

Little Big Man - Anything with Chief Dan George in it.

The 'far out' prize: Westworld

The 'really different' prize: High Plains Drifter

'Just Plain Depressing': Hombre and Tom Horn

A TV Pilot movie: Kung Fu
