Top Break Model 3???

My dad and I took all our firearms, and put them in his new gun safe this weekend and I noticed this top break S&W that he had. There isn't a model number nor is there a caliber stamp on the pistol. I was just trying to get some more info on the pistol, and I'd appreciate any information that you guy could give me. Serial on the bottom of the grip and the cylinder match and is 2644XX.

The revolver is a .38 S&W Double Action, Third model, if it's .38 caliber, probably made in late 1890s.. If it's a .32 caliber, then it's a .32 S&W Double Action, Fourth Model, made about 1907. Ed.

We've never shot the pistol. It belonged to my great grandfather, but my dad believes it's a .38. Thanks for the info.

That's a .38 Military & Police Model of 1905, 2nd change, based on the serial number you quote. The barrel marking refers to the .38 caliber cartridge adopted by the Army in 1899, which is the same as the .38 S&W Special round. The gun was probably made about 1907. Ed.
