Top break

I just recently discovered among the firearms my Dad passed down to me a small, 5-shot, break-top revolver. It's effectively a single-shot. I can open the frame, close it and rotate the cylinder to reset the trigger and it will drop the hammer once. Is it worth having a gunsmith try to fix it? Does this revolver have any collector value? It's in pretty bad shape. There's no rust, but the chrome(?) plating is peeling off and as noted earlier it will only function as single shot. It locks up tight, but the cylinder rotates freely, so I wouldn't drop the hammer on a chamber because the chances of it being centered with the barrel are remote.

It's probably not worth the expense of repair, however tell us what it is. Is it a Smith & Wesson? What's the serial number? What's the caliber? Is there a visible hammer, or is it a hammerless model? Does it have a bow trigger guard or is it a spur trigger? Is it a round butt or square butt frame? Are the grips a black hard rubber or wood or? Any patent dates on the barrel? Ed.

Actually the guys here can tell you an awful lot with some photo's. I had a top break, trying to describe it wasn't working . I had no clue on how to post photo but member glowe explained in simple terms, step by step instructions and I was able to post them. The guys gave me answer's to all my questions about the top break. I copied glowe's instructions and use them every time to post.
Somewhere in the forum I found photo posting instructions that were to complicated for me to follow ( i'm computer illiterate ) So if you need help just ask...great bunch here
