It looks like a .38 DA Third Model to me, ca. late 1880s. It uses .38 S&W ammunition, which is available but difficult to find. NOT the same as .38 S&W Special.

Would this work?
Winchester .38 S&W Round Lead Nose 145gr 50rd box (X38SWP)
Thanks

Probably. As long as it is identified as .38 S&W, not .38 S&W Special. I think Winchester still loads it, and also Remington, and a few foreign makers. Back in the old days, the same cartridge also went by the name of .38 Colt New Police. There was also a .38 "Super Police" load with a 200 grain bullet, but both of those are long obsolete. The .38 Short Colt is also still in production, and can be fired in a .38 S&W chamber, but it is actually slightly smaller in diameter than the .38 S&W cartridge. It will work, but is not recommended for use that way.

Fiocchi ammo .38 S&W SHORT 145gr FMJ 50/bx is a load offered by Fiocchi for the S&W 38. If it is the 32 then you will have to look around for that ammo.
