Torn Between Calibers for A New Toy

I recommend the 44 just because it my favorite cartridge of all time.
However I got rid of Desert Eagle 50 a few years ago and I have eyeing the 500 to the point my eyes are starting to hurt.

My two cents on this are as follows...

Big fan of large slugs, yes I am.

That said, I cast and reload, so it's all relative for me.

I have several 38's and 357's, but they are my 'economy' revolvers. They use less lead and powder, so they are my contribution to the green movement, and if you know me... that's as good as it gets on that score.

They feel similar to my true love, the 44, in terms of handling and I can practice on the cheap.

If you don't cast and/or reload, they're still more cost effective and ammo is more easily sourced.

If you can support it, go for the big stuff.

I was thinking 460 as well, especially since you said the 500 was pretty wild, but you think you want one. I love my 460 and it is my first revolver.

I would love to get a 629 classic 44 mag around 6" long. It would be quite versatile, fun, and well balanced. Your 45 colt might be quite similar to a 44 though, unless you go with a different length or finish.

A 22lr would be cool, but it lacks excitement compared to center fire. I have a ruger hunter 22 pistol in the 6 7/8" barrel (wonderful gun and fun to shoot), and would probably hold off on a 22 revolver. If I spent more time at the range, then a 22 might get more use.

Find and buy a .22 LR S&W model 18-2 or 18-3. It is just about ideal for anything you will ever want to do with a revolver... be it field or range. It is economical to shoot and with good ammo selection it will be satisfyingly accurate. I have owned and swapped off 5 Model 18's since 1983. The one I now own is number six in that line. It is not for sale/trade! It is absolutely excellent!
