Torn between Shield 9 or 642?

My vote is for the 642 as well. I carry a Ruger SP101 every day and a S&W 340 SC when my back is hurting. In my opinion in a SHTF situation I want simple - point & shoot. I think, at least in my case, I would fumble with sliding off a safety, and in a failure-to-fire situation - pulling the trigger again beats the heck out of rack-tap-n-slide in a semi. I also don't think it likely that I will be in a situation where I need more than 5 shots to resolve it. Just my 2c worth

I am finally thinking about a carry gun. I have had a CWP for almost 30 years but never actually carried. I am a revolver guy with mostly .357 and .44 calibers.

I have never actually fired or even held on to a pocket gun. I have been reading reviews and also watching some on YouTube.

I like the idea of the Shield because it is small and flat. The reviews have been very positive. The 442/642 no lock is a classic and well proven.

I have no intension of going to the range and shooting a carry gun other than to break in and make sure all is in order. I will target shoot with others.

Help! Thank You, Brian

I own a Shield 9mm and really enjoy the weapon. However from your post if you don't plan to shoot your ccw more than the break in period I would not purchase a conceal weapon like the Shield.

You need to practice a minimum (at least 100 rounds) every 6 weeks.

The Shield with a shorter distance between front and rear sights will require more practice over a full size handgun to become proficient.

I would go with the 642, especially since your say your a revolver man and really don't want to shoot it.

Why would you not want to shoot it? The 642 is a fun gun to shoot, especially with wadcutters. If you are ever involved in a shooting, you should be able to testify that you actually practice with your carry gun.

I bought a 9C as my first carry weapon. Before warm weather returns, I'm planning on a 642 or similar snub. A buddy of mine let me handle his old Charter Arms .38Spl Undercover model and you can fit that thing concealed almost anywhere. If he didn't have such an emotional connection to the gun, I would have mad him an offer right there.
Hoping a used S&W is in my future, though. Maybe after some of this madness subsides.
I also think my wife would be more apt to get involved with HD with a revolver versus my SA. It is too intimidating for her as a "starter gun".

Ask yourself this. How many posts do you read on this form and virtually all other gun forms about shooters disappointed with the reliability of a semi-auto. Now ask yourself the same question reguarding a Smith J frame.

Ok guy's. I promise whatever gun I choose I will shoot and practrice with it on a regular basis. Thanks for all of the input. Brian
