Tracking credit card gun purchases

Not in 5 years, not in 10 years, maybe 20 years. Many of us won't be around to see it.
Yes, it will be come more common, Google Pay, Apple Pay Venmo and other such apps.

Think of all the things that have happened in the last 5 years that you must have thought would take at least 10 years to come about, or would never happen at all.

Want to reconsider your previous statement?

For anyone that says this does not bother them, you need to get your head examined. You think they are going to stop there? What are they going to use a specific code for next, precious metal purchases. Ammo, ammo components, tools....... You just need to use your imagination to see what can and will be tracked. It is not necessarily that they are tracking the purchases of gun but, that they feel it necessary to track anything. Can one of you that doesn't care tell me why it is necessary to track anything that you purchase?

And this is what the push for this has been about.

And who is going to make the decision that a particular purchase or series of purchases should be reported to law enforcement? My experience with minor functionaries trying to justify their jobs has never been good. I'm a competitve pistol shooter. If I buy a case of .22 rimfire shells on my credit card, and a minor functionary gets the vapors from seeing that it is 5000 rounds of ammunition, should I be expecting some badges to show up at my front door?

You mean like this?

Well, consider that it took 25+ years for cell phones to become what they are now.
How do you think banking/buying/ etc will be done in 10-20 years? Everyone have an up to date cell phone and every business have a way to process those payments?
Or will we all have a chip implanted?

Every FFL is required to report any multiple (2 or more) handgun purchases within a 5 day period to the ATF/FBI who then notifies the local LE agency. It is then the decision of local LE whether to make a visit.

Ever wonder why when you search for faucets online, you get pop-ups for months on plumbing supplies? Google already knows more about you and your habits than does .gov .

Nailed

Me neither, but the idea bothers me. If this were 80 years ago these toads would be tracking sales of Kosher food to help identify and round up the Jews. The whole thing disgusts me.

You nail it brother.

Certain citizens are being demonized like the Jews were.

Where we are heading won't end well. Not with 700 million guns in circulation according to the ATF.

Doesn't impact me, I don't use Visa.

FedX and UPS won't ship a gun for me, but really, I don't ship guns that often anyway.

I'm not worried about high capacity magazine bans, I use revolvers.

I don't like black rifles, so they can ban them all they want.

So they're shutting down gun shows? That's okay, I never go anyway.

I'm a responsible gun owner, new common sense gun restrictions won't affect me.
Sure they will, just be patient.

I suppose your reply has opened a few eyes. A gun owner should be a 2A advocate.

You're okay with banning Modern Sporting Rifles? Do you truly believe it will stop there?

I hope your post was intended to be sarcasm.

Brick by brick,we the people are being reduced to reconstituted catfish whiskers.
The most hard to see is that which is right under yer nose.

Is a gun enthusiast, a gun nut and a Second Amendment hobbyist the same thing?

Long ago, on jury duty, the prosecutor got a wee bit overly wordy with his rambling.
"Any questions?", was what he asked the remaining potential members of the jury.
My question was, "can you please explain the difference between beyond a reasonable doubt and beyond the shadow of a doubt as I'm not exactly sure of why you mentioned both?"

He was not a happy camper.
Later that evening at a party, the judge told the Mrs that it took all of his self control to keep from laughing.

If you can't see the difference then I guess that I am not qualified to explain it.

You know, machine-gun purchases have been heavily regulated since the 1930s. You still can buy them in states that allow it, and I haven't heard of any used in crimes nor swept up (remember, the Feds know exactly where they are) during WWII, Korea, Vietnam, race riots, or other national emergencies in the past 90 years. I've worked for .gov, as have many members here, and just don't see Fed employees as enemies, only as Americans serving their country in thousands of ways.

And a reminder - this is an ISO standard, not law, not regulation.

Ever since we went to electronic everything, they track everything. If they "investigate" our electronic payments, they know exactly where we are and what we purchased. That's just what it is.

What would be criminal is if they deny a purchase based of what you buy, and/or share those spending habits with the American Gestapo.

allow me to pull a few excerpts from an article relating to this.

Merchant codes are four-digit codes that categorize retailers across all industries; until now, gun purchases had been classified under "miscellaneous retail stores" or "sporting goods stores."

While the measure has been lauded by politicians such as Massachusetts senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey among others, it isn't clear how this process will work.

I believe it is well established that these individuals are no friends of ours. Why are they so jazzed about this development?
Historically, Warren in a state of happiness over any subject has never been a favorable condition.

John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety, welcomed ISO's decision, which was announced on Friday, and said it's now crucial for this to be implemented thoroughly.

"Today's announcement is a critical first step towards giving banks and credit card companies the tools they need to recognize dangerous firearm purchasing trends – like a domestic extremist building up an arsenal – and report them to law enforcement," he said in a statement shared with the Guardian.
This seems to indicate that this is not intended to be a stand alone measure, and will work in conjunction with other policy changes.
Members of anytown would define 50 rounds as an excessive stockpile, where we consider 200 the same as being out of ammo. Who gets to say what defines an "arsenal" is important. Our views will not be considered.
Mr Feinblatt seems to be aware of a larger plan at play here.
Things are happening very quickly lately.
You can take the blows while saying "that didn't hurt" all the way to the trauma center. We are not making up any ground while we are spiraling toward an end game.
