Hey guys, first time posting on here, so if it's in the wrong spot please feel free to redirect me. Years ago my dad had to sell his customized model 29 to catch up on some bills, and I'm trying to find it to bring it back into the family. It was sold around 2008 in North Charleston, SC.

I have no photos of it, but have quite a bit of details, including the serial which hasn't proven too helpful in tracking it down. It's a model 29(-3?)serial AFJ1276. blued, custom hand-carved rosewood grips (the carving is of Pegasus, the winged horse, I think) an 18oz pull trigger job, fully jeweled, and his initials engraved on the 6in. barrel "GEH."

Any tips on starting the search to find it would be super appreciated, or if there's a way to tell if it's popped up for sale online.

Welcome to the Forum, Capt.! The s/n number (AFJ1276) does indeed indicate a Model 29-3 from 1984. The 6" bbl. became standard in 1979 so that also matches. It sounds like your Dad really liked this revolver and invested in some enhancements. I hope that you're successful in locating it and bringing it home as a family heirloom. As lawandorder stated, there are lots of good folks here on the Forum and they'll help however they can. Good luck!

Do you know who it was sold to, or was it a consignment sale through a gun store? You might start with the store where it was sold, but unless someone sees your post here or on other forums, it's a **** shoot to find it. It could have been sold several times since you Dad sold it, and once the 4473 is turned in, the names aren't usually remembered at the stores.

This revolver , with all its embellishments sounds like something a forum member might own or has knowledge of. It was probably sold in a FTF handshake deal. It sounds like a buy and hold gun. Not something a guy buys to go shoot deer. I hope I'm right and wish you good luck.

Best of luck with your search and if you locate the gun, that the current owner is amendable to rehoming it.

I own a Browning B78 .25/06 that the former owner's sons have been trying to get back for ten years. I don't care to part with it; it isn't going anywhere.
