Hi:
While waiting in my car at the Mall (Wife shopping) a older gentleman gave me a business card and a short sales speech about a spray that when applied to the license plate renders a photo of your license plate messed up by the Traffic Cameras at intersections.
Has anyone heard of this spray?
The web address is "www.stoptickets.us"

I saw a ticket issued to a customer of mine last month. You could see her and her tag.Maybe she could spray her face with it.Or maybe Maybelline could mix some in their makeup.;)

Jimmy,

This is some sort of spray containing silver or other reflective metal particles. It works by reflecting back the light from the camera flash and blinding the camera. It has variable effectiveness depending on how much of it you spray on the plate, and the angle between the flash and your license plat. The more oblique the angle, the less well it works.

You might want to check and see if it is legal in your jurisdiction.

It was because of one of these damnable automatic cameras, for which I was cited doing 27 in a 25 zone, that I finally had had enough and voted with my feet moving out of D.C. and to Virginia, where no LEO would be so overbearing as to write up someone for a 2 mph over the limit violation. These are revenue enhancement, not law enforcement, programs, and they are made all the more offensive when run by private companies.

What's next? Blackwater goons showing up at the door when you refuse to pay?

My daughter was caught by one of those red Light cams.... They sent the ticket for her running the light along with the picture of her running the light and yacking on her cell phone while doing it.

I've heard that in Texas, you can pretty much ignore a traffic camera ticket, because the law says that an officer must observe the violation.

But I'd hate to be the test case for that theory.

I hate those cameras. I've almost been rear-ended by drivers following me when I had to brake abruptly to avoid a light that might go red as I reached it. Yellow lights at some of these camera locations seem to be especially brief.

A few weeks ago, I entered an intersection just as the light went yellow. I couldn't possibly have stopped. And some fool made a right turn on his red light without checking the intersection first. I was barely able to avoid him, and presume that the light went red before I cleared the intersection, after recovering from my swerve. If I get a ticket over that, I want to fight it.

Mind you, one needs to be ready to stop if a light goes red. I saw a three-car accident when a car ran a red light two weeks ago. I always look for a last-minute red light runner before I go forward on a fresh green light. I was almost killed by a nurse who went to sleep at the wheel and ran a red light. Her big Mercedes left white paint on the front bumper of my Toyota. Thank God, I have great brakes!(And really good peripheral vision!) The nurse had just worked a 12-hour shift, and was on her way home, sleepy. My light had been green for several seconds.

I think medical personnel need not to be working long hours that make them drowsy and impair their judgement. That may have caused a number of accidents, both medical and traffic.

P.S. BTW, I am not a chronic red light runner. If anything, I drive VERY defensively, and often yield right of way, if it'll avoid an accident.

I think it would be more effective and safer to lengthen the yellow light by two seconds, and the overlap time between red in one direction and green in the crossing direction lengthened as well, so that the 'late yellow' runners don't meet the 'early greeners'...IMHO

Is the cell phone a ticket?(notice I didn't ask if it was an offence)

Exactamento, DG. Many of these programs have been criticized for precisely this reason.

Hmm,Do you think the city could run it cheaper? But I'm quite sure there's some deals to be made in the City office.I sure would like to see the real numbers.
Also how many LEOs would it take to match even the 25%?
Don't get me wrong,I don't like them either.(I pick my nose at intersections) I think they are an invasion of my privacy.

Hmmm, I've heard that some of these cameras are sometimes the victims of gunshots.......what a tragedy........Shoo

I got a traffic cam ticket for not stopping behind the stop line, but just past it. It's not just running through the intersection that they're looking at.

I like the way many of the traffic lights operate in Europe. The green then the yellow starts flashing for about ten seconds before changing.

Just for the sake of discussion, 27 in a posted 25 is indeed over the speed limit.

I think it's also a fair discussion to re-emphasize how 2 mph over the speed limit is a lousy infraction. Its pretty darn easy to have your vehicle increase 2 mph very quickly, especially on a downhill grade. If everyone drove around with their eyes glued to their speedometer, to ensure that they were not (for a moment) going 2 mph over a speed limit, I'd bet there would be a lot of accidents...

Let's call this what it is, a revenue grab. I believe people have a right to be upset with this type of 'law enforcement.' I don't believe any right-minded LEO would write that ticket, but its OK to accept it from a camera...?

Say what you want, but to me, this is an example of the government finding another way into our pockets. What really gets me is that the people that we elect to represent us, choose to pass these types of laws. They just can't help but grab the $$ to try and fill up that bottomless revenue bucket called wasteful spending. Rant over, thanks.

Well said dmar. Police are supposed to enforce laws first, and the smooth flow of safe traffic second. 2 mph violations are indeed nothing but revenue grabbing. I hate to say that someone stating that you were speeding at 2 mph over the limit is a very sad statement and appears to be that person's attempt at a ridiculous arguement just for the sake of arguing. Traffic cameras do not increase safety, they just make the companies that actually own the cameras and mail out the tickets rich. The state gets their cut, and then they can spend that much more money on frivolous crap...... Shoo

Honestly, would you cite a driver for this? I have asked numerous LEOs here where I now live if they would do so, and I am invariably met by looks that indicate the officers think I'm funnin' them.

What made this worse was when I appealed the citation using the form provided, I was never given an opportunity to make my case in front of a magistrate or administrative hearing officer. Weeks later I got a form letter telling me that "we have reviewed your file and have denied your appeal." Some justice.

It is, as others have noted, a revenue grab, but I am sure the Government of the District of Columbia will put that money to good use finding ways to sabotage the District of Columbia v. Heller ruling, and in other ways harassing gun owners while the gang-bangers continue to turn the Nation's capital into a Third World hell hole.

Just my opinion, Faulkner, but again, I would like to know if you as an LEO would personally write such a citation.

I seem to recall reading that one of the western states, maybe Arizona, had had a lot of these cameras in use but was taking them all down. Most people were ignoring the tickets. The issue was that the state or municipality could not prove that the "victim" had even received the ticket in the mail. I guess they were too tight to use registered mail with a return receipt.

I think the whole concept stinks. It's all about revenue and probably impairs safety.
