What are the thoughts about a member of this forum who commits to buy something and then goes silent until contacted via PM about the commitment. Upon that prompting, the member basically stated he/she decided they didn't need the item after all.
This seems to me to be poor form for a group where trust among members should be paramount.

I want to make it clear I'm not talking about any of the fine members of this forum to whom I've sold items, and I'm not outing anyone nor am I leaving a negative feedback. I've lost nothing except a little time getting the sales ad reposted.

Moderators, please delete this post if I've violated some forum rules.

Your thoughts seem pretty reasonable.
I try to put "followed by a prompt pm" in my ad for a buyer to understand that I need them to contact me to get the ball rolling.

Some are a bit newer than others on the forum so clear instructions make sense.

The person has been a forum member for a number of years. Had it been a new member, I would have just let it go.

I had that happen, once, too. (I want to stress that all of my other transactions over the years on this fine forum have gone well.)

After committing to buy, a day or two later the buyer PM'd me and said, "Just as you have the right to set the price you want, I have the right to change my mind and not buy."

I did not respond. I relisted the item and it soon sold.

You're either a stand up guy or you are not.

My belief is that life's too short to let the poor behavior of others bother you too much.:)

I hope everybody reads this...

Just letting a person to stew in their own juices after a commitment is made is indeed very bad form. Nobody will think badly of a person who has an honest problem if they just come back and state it. Durned if we all don't know how money you have one minute might vanish the next. This isn't a merchandise outlet as much as it is a community of like-minded individuals. Everybody deserves top consideration.

I hope anybody that doesn't understand this takes it to heart. It's FAR BETTER for EVERYONE to be straight up in their dealings.

Posted a gun for sale, and 7 minutes later I had a "I'll take it."

We exchanged info, and he gave me his good friends name who owned a gun shop and told me he would accept the gun shipped from me with a copy of my drivers licenses. He was sending a postal money order. Days went by and he said the money order had been mailed, it never showed up. Just for the heck of it I called the "good friend" who never heard of the guy and said he never accepts a gun not sent through another FF. Money order never showed up. I ended up trading the gun to another member here. That transaction was perfect.

You can't judge some people on here by how long they've been here.

Edited out the personal info.

Shame some people would hold so little regard for their reputation.

Some of the stories on here have me a bit surprised.

I have had really good luck on the forum.

I've never had a bad transaction on the Forum, and would be shocked if I did.

Regarding "buyer's remorse", or backing out after committing to buy something...just don't do it. If you commit to buy something, send the seller the money. I've never bought anything on here that was valued more highly than my word and reputation...

Stuff happens, and sometimes you need to shift priorities. That said, the First thing you should do is talk to the person you are dealing with.

I've had a couple over the years that I have PM'd on, but if I'm a little on the fence I tell folks to go ahead and sell if someone else commits. I won't post the I'll Take It until the funds are ready to be sent.

I've had 1 bad transaction experience here, and it really surprised me! It was years ago and a relatively new forum member was making very nice handgun racks out of wood. A good many folks had ordered from him, received them, bragged on their quality, and in some cases even reordered. After seeing this, I ordered a couple of his racks, sent him payment (IIRC, less than $100), back then I believe it was a check, and patiently waited. A couple of weeks later I noticed members here were asking if others had received their racks lately. And many had not, and some of those that had reordered and had received their first order promptly, were wondering what the holdup was.

PM's were sent asking about our orders. He apologized about his lateness, and some were told their order had just been shipped, and others were told he was working on their order. I believe one or two more orders trickled in, then nothing! PM's went unanswered, he quit posting, and basically fell off of the earth. One hundred dollars isn't a huge amount, but it isn't chump change to me. I was able to find out his real name and actually his phone number. I called and again promised my racks soon. I told him if he couldn't supply the racks, no problem, just refund my money. He promised I would get the racks! Of course, I never received them or a refund, and there were a decent amount of folks here that got stiffed! I know it was a few hundred dollars. Live and learn, I guess.

It didn't break me, and I am still a trusting man, especially to members here, and I definitely appreciate the moderators who let us know about scammers asap!

FWIW, my experiences in buying from members of this forum have been nothing but exemplary.

Recent example, I made a purchase of some grips with payment by personal check. In the ad, seller indicated that he would hold the grips until the check cleared. In actuality, he sent the grips USPS priority and I had these 2 days before the check arrived to the seller. Talk about a stand-up guy!!

While I've not yet sold anything on the forum, I have offered items as "karma" and all of these went smoothly as well.

Needless to say, I greatly appreciate the opportunity to participate on this forum.
