I saw a house in my area putting all kinds of stuff out to the curb on Wednesday(The house had sold which is 1 of I'd say 100 in Drexel Hill, PA - FYI it's a new and ugly trend).

Anyway I found the following 3 items in a seriously vintage Sears Aluminum Tackel box. What I didn't take pictures of was a vintage skate key an old lead spoon jigi thing, some swivels and old keys.

Left to right:

Richards Sheffield England Silver King Gentleman's Pocket Knife, Cast Iron and Brass 3" toy Cannon(Collectable) and what looks like and older Daisy BB container half full of used BB's

Just thought I'd share

I did a little research but have come up empty. There is little information available regarding the configurations of these particular knives.

I think I'll do a seach on the different types of pocket knife blades.

If I find something I'll update the post.

Have a good one

You both are correct....The base is the tamper, the blade is rounded for the bowl and the spike is to clear the blockages.

I thought maybe the blade was broken and someone rounded it off.

Thanks to the both of you for clearing this up...

When I was a kid I was riding through an alley on my bike when I found a pair of elephant tusks that had been thrown out. I was pretty far from home and could only carry one of them on my shoulder while I steered the bike one-handed. I had to stop and rest a few times, but I got it home. At the time I didn't know why I wanted them, I just knew that I did. I went back the next day to get the other one and it was gone. The one I did get eventually wound up in the attic of our garage. I later joined the Navy and when I came home I was going to get some pistol grips made out of it for a 1911. I went into the attic and found my Dad had thrown it and some other neat stuff out while I was gone. I wish I still had it. It was big enough that all my Smith's would be wearing ivories with some left over.

My job involves a lot of riding around the county. I see something I think is worth something I stop and ask for it. If it's too big for me to carry I can usually find someone to come get it or have it moved back until I can come get it. Over the years I have found antique bottles, old comic books, furniture, fishing tackle, car parts, several rifle stocks (including a couple of 1903's) and lots of other stuff. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

"One man's trash is another man's treasure."

I thought this was R Burgs' motto???

That is a cool Pipe knife. I have been looking for one of them!

I can relate to you Charlie. My late Father was a Deputy and brought home some cool stuff. Too bad about those tusks, you had some money in the attic. We have fix up clean up week here in my town ever summer. Have found some cool stuff while out curb shopping.

You would have had a blast around here the last few weeks! I can only imagine some of the old and valuable things that were hauled away to a landfill.:(

Richards operated from 1934 to 1982. Richards owned some big name cutlery brands back in the day. It was founded by the Richartz brothers of Solingen. The logo on the blade is not the one they started out with so I would guess 1950ish date. Certainly a better quality knife and a nice find!

I once found a triumph motorcycle partialy sticking out of a old mine shaft. There was a deep black hole under it with soft dirt cupped around the hole and I being clumbsy was too scared to try for it. Had to be hot anyway. Another time I did find a norton motorcycle slightly banged up and hid alongside the freeway. My buddy had to find a place to pee. The cycle had some slight rust on it from rain, but otherwise looked new. I found where he hit a sign. I figure he either had stold it, or hated it after the crash, hid it and collected the insurance.
Another time I was out shooting downhill from a road. I found a suitcase filled with some ladys cloths. They were pretty rotten, it looked suspicious to me. I called the sheriffs office and reported it. I know a brushoff when I hear one. Yup, citizen, us heros will check it out, not to worry thany you. I kind of told them it would be hard to find, but they never asked me to physicaly show them the spot. Anyway a number of years later a womans skeliton was found right there, I read in the paper.

My brother in law had bought an old house and had placed some items out at the street for the trash guy , or anybody else that wanted it . One of the items was an old storm door . About an hour later , there was a knock on the front door . Some guy wanted to know if he had the hardware that went with the door . He rummaged around and found the hinges and latch for him . The guy was tickled to death .

I FOUND SOME SILVER COINS WHEN I WAS IN A KID, THEY WERE IN A BOX OUT BY THE STREET FOT TRASH PICK UP, WHERE DID I PUT THEM I DONT KNOW?

A co-worker and I who had interests along the lines of mine , used to grab a truck and go out and patrol the curbside offerings of clean-up weeks that we called "exchange week", dump your unwanted stuff and sort through the piles for treasures. I can't believe what some people discard. Got many, many lawnmowers that simply had nothing wrong with them but stale gas from winter storage. Brand new in the box 36" whole house attic fan. Jewelery, and valuable jewelry at that lying in the bottom of some boxes. Once a complete darkroom setup. Cameras, enlargers, all the developing materials and tools.Books, valuable books. One box had misc reloading supplies, dies, molds, etc, that I cleared $500 from on the sale of. I made a LOT of money on those cleanup weeks. Still do dumpster diving, much to my wife's chagrin.

I found a hamburger in a trash can once.
It wasn't very good.

Still wondering...

...who found the steel garbage can full of "Old Japanese swords" that an old gal put out on the curb in Red Bank, NJ about 1985 after her husband died.

When I was younger we were clearing out the first floor of an old retail store and underneath the glass display cases were silver quarters, Kennedy and Franklin half's, Eisenhower and liberty dollars. I'm sure it's all worth more than the face value of $97 thanks in part to eBay.

I have a State Trooper friend who has the world's greatest collection of tie-downs and bungee cords. He always pulls over on the interstate to pick them up. Safety hazard, dontcha know;)
