Trends You Simply Can't Stand...Feel Free To Vent Here

Not from Texas......Like Lyle Lovett's "That's Right"... you're not from Texas.. He had a couple of concerts here about two years ago. Delbert used to come to Cotati pretty frequently..them Texas boys like Sonoma County, we got hills, lots of hills and it ain't hot. My 2nd ex wife and I are both from here. I've watched Calif turn from the tip of the arrow into a third world dumpster fire. Don't let those people wreck Texas like they did Oregon and WA. We are already too far gone to save..

“Running”
I think is appropriate when discussing belt fed machine guns.

“Yes, it’s running well to day with the new feed pawl.”

Since I have recently taken up bullet casting again after a multi-decade hiatus I've run into two.

1. "Casted" as in "I casted 1,000 wadcutters". That's not even a word. The past tense of "cast" is "cast".

2. "Smelted" as in "I smelted 300 pounds of scrap into ingots." Smelting is the process of removing a metal from the ore that was mined. I guess it sounds cooler than "processing".

I don't say anything. I just cringe.
Can we add "gifted" to that. I.E. "I was gifted my granddads pocketknife"
I'm no English Major but that just twists my tail.

When visiting my son we stopped into a large gun store with cases and cases of semi automatic pistols and one lone case way in the back with some snub nose revolvers and a few Taurus Judges.
Young employee pulls out a nice 637, opens the cylinder and proceeds to flick it closed.
Drives me nuts when people do that.

Recently stopped in a local shop that had a nice 10-5 with some aftermarket grips. The serial number listed on the price tag was actually the assembly number - I mentioned that they should take off the grips to the see the actual serial number as the grips are covering the serial number.

Videos that apologies for pointing the gun at "you". Really? Is anyone fearful that the gun will fire, the bullet with travel though the "magic of tv" pop out of the screen and hit them in the chest?

Legos for adults. Quit hanging crap all over your gun! On the other hand, whatever lifts your skirt.

S&W using the same names over and over again. This is a bodyguard

Does not one person at S&W have an imagination?
Or the “Victory” model.

  1. Hipsters
  2. Hipsters getting into guns and bushcraft knives especially on YouTube. (So I don’t watch).
  3. Craft beers and craft beer snobs.
  4. Arrogant young gunshop employees who treat customers with contempt.
  5. Mature women, 40 to 60, going out and getting their first tattoo just so they can look cool and younger.

I think the subject is self explanatory, but for the record: What current/modern trends in the world of guns and shooting make you cringe, scratch your head, or just plain say "gosh darn it, heck no!" The older I get, it seems the longer the list gets. Well, no kidding, it comes with growing old. However, there are a few particulars that have been with me awhile and show no signs of dropping off the list.

I'll start with just one. Vertical forward grips on rifles. They are ubiquitous, most notably on ARs. I sold plenty of them over the years, and could install them almost with my eyes closed. They made for an almost guaranteed add-on sale, and while I never automatically endorsed them, neither did I go to any great lengths to discourage the purchase.

Personally, I have tried them, several models on several guns several times, and for me, they just don't work. Regardless of the position on the handguard, they inevitably induce lateral torque under recoil. I shoot much better, with faster recovery, using pretty much any hold on pretty much any standard handguard. I can easily believe that some, possibly many shooters out there have had a different experience with them than me, but I can't imagine I'm the only one. I'm convinced that a whole lot of them are used for the simple reason that they look "tacticool", and have that "operator aura."

There, I said it.

Also, FWIW, I can't stand sesame seeds on my food, but this isn't the place for that.....
What do sesame seeds add to the dining experience anyway?

It annoys the heck out of me when somebody says they “rock” or are “rocking” anything.
Also You Tuber shooting videos where the “host/expert” is always wearing gloves while shooting when it’s not cold.
Are they afraid of damaging their manicures?

It’s not just one guy. The gloves thing seems pervasive. The desire to look like one of the Cool Kids.
Wannabe “ Operators “, I guess.
Maybe they will mature and outgrow it someday.

Every single pistol in my collection is stock, as it came from the factory. Carry have received trigger work, maybe a match grade bbl. My edc from 1981-1990s was a stock colt 1911, was replaced by a Springfield Mil-spec and a Safari Arms Matchmaster. My BUG has always been a Colt officers or a Safari Arms Black Widow. I recently ran across a Glock 19, used at a lgs selling for 800 bucks. I was there to hit the range with .y newest, a psa dagger compact, threaded, rmr ready, ported upper for $189 mated to a complete psa compact dagger clone lower for $39.99. She shot better than the pair of glocks in the lane next to me.

People forget, the gun accounts for 10% of accuracy, but it's always been dependent on the shooter.

YES 🙌 I see it all the time on a local marketplace website here in VA. Any Glock that’s been “customized” or “improved” or “enhanced.” 😂

I like my Glocks bone stock so I wouldn’t be a buyer anyways but certainly not as the insane prices they’re often asking.
People do the same thing with cars. They mess them up and wonder why they don't sell. Personally I don't care for pistols or revolvers that have been dolled up to look like Christmas trees. It takes away from the simplicity and essence of the firearm.
