trigger failed to "recock"

Question

I shot about 50 rounds yesterday.

About 5 shots into the second clip I went to squeez off the sixth shot and nothing, no click, no shot. Expelled that round, "recocking" the trigger and it shot great the rest of the time.
Now, could that have been my fault. Maybe not letting the trigger fully go? Or is this a problem I need to look into??

What gun do you have?

There are two kinds of reset failures:
1. Trigger reset failure, where the shooter does not let the trigger go forward before trying to pull it again.
2. Sear reset failure, which often occurs after the sear springs have been removed/modified in a Sigma.

I have a unmolested 9mm sigma, about 4 weeks old, and maybe 150 rounds total through it....its all stock...
Im thinking I might have held the trigger just enough that it didnt reset, but I wanted to know if there was something I may need to look at to be sure...

If it does it again, before you pull back the slide, take your finger off the trigger and try it again.
If it still does not fire, pull the slide back slowly and listen for the "click" when it is about 3/8" to 1/2" back. That is sear reset failure, and it is a problem with the gun/ammo. You can't cause sear reset failure by how you hold the trigger.

If cleaning and lubing per the manual (not too much) does not cure the problem with quality factory ammo, it's warranty time.

I had rather wondered about that myself....in playing with the gun, seeing how it actually worked, including seeing what prevented it from firing out of battery (how disconnect worked), with cocked gun and slide out of battery by varying degrees and while pulling trigger, it did some pretty weird things....

the trigger bar gets disengaged from the pin sticking out the side of the sear as the hump on the bar is depressed by a speedbump on the bottom of the slide.....

but in some variations, i could see where perhaps a prestaged trigger would prevent the sear from resetting at all, or staying reset....the manual warns against prestaging, and claims the gun can also fire when prestaged trigger is released, so i could at least visualize where perhaps it might also prevent the sear getting/staying set as well as unset....

however, timing is everything on an auto/self-loader, and the timing of this gun is pretty much a mystery to me...there are many resources to allow one to see exactly what should be happening and when in a 1911 including animations, as well as exhaustive technical and military resources describing the function in detail....i've been able to find nothing even close in either Glock or Sigma resources, including the Glock armorer's manual....examples being the questions i had about firing out of battery in varying degrees and when it works and when it doesn't, as well as influence of trigger bar on reset function.

thanks for the info....we will see next time I shoot it....it was clean before I shoot it this last time, when the sear failed to reset....Its been thorouhgly cleaned now, so we'll see

that's nice animation of the cycle, but still not very clear on how sear reset simply cannot be effected by trigger bar position during entire cycle....and the Sigma disconnector and sear is quite different anyhow....also know earlier Glocks ended up needing an "upgrade" as disconnector often didn't and some guns went burst or auto or kaboom until the fix was sent out and integrated into production....neither here nor there except the Glock has gotten a lot more exposure due to hard and constant use in LE as well as military which will show design hinks and flaws just from higher mileage/longer term driving, and such use the Sigma has not gotten....it's common for people to find ways of making a gun do something the engineers just never could think of in a million years, simply as there are more people messing with them than engineers designing them...

Are you sure the slide was all the way forward? If not fully in battery, the gun will not fire. Causes of not fully returning to battery are faulty ammo (burr, bullet seated too long, dinged case) or a random bit of crud preventing the slide from closing.

Could also be a break-in issue, but with 150 rounds that seems unlikely, to me anyway.

If it happens again try to determine if the slide is fully in battery, and if you have allowed the trigger to fully reset.

Sigmas (IMHO) are extremely reliable.

Yeah it was in full battery...cause I checked the "peep" hole to ensure a round was in there...im pretty sure it was fully engaged....

Shot 50 more rounds today..no problems, nata....shot like she's posed to!!!
