I purchased a M&P PC Ported Core 9 MM. I mounted a Trijicon RMR with a self adjusting dot intensity.

Turns out the barrel ports create quite a little flash that messes with the sensors in the sight. I should have done a little more research and bought the manual adjustable sight.

Nobodies fault but mine. Just putting this out there as info someone might need. I am hoping I can talk Trijicon into taking my sight in on trade and sell me the adjustable model. We will see.

I'm not understanding what your problem is. The flash should only cause the dot to adjust brighter. Is that really a problem?

Which model specifically? Is it one of the dual illumination variety?
 
The manually adjustable model is what I need because with the flash from the ported barrel, the dot intensity does increase which tends to distort the dot. Also the increased intensity appears to increase the size of the dot.

The obvious solution is of course a new manually adjustable Trijicon but being I just bought this sight for a lot of money, I really don't want to buy another.

Something to learn to live with I guess.
 
I guess everyone's eyes see things differently. I bought the same sight and have run 5000 rounds over the past 12 months in both indoor and outdoor flawlessly. I give it a 10 out of 10. It is indestructible and consistent. I also run the gambit of ammo -- 115, 124, etc.

That doesn't sound right. Make sure that your screws are torqued properly. If that does not help contact Trijicon since you may need to send it in.

What kind of ammo are you shooting to get that much flash?

Yeah, this doesn't sound right. The auto dimming feature shouldn't react that fast. A quick flash from a shot shouldn't cause the dot to brighten noticeably. Even if it did react that fast, it would dim back down just as fast and still not be noticeable.

Have you called Trijicon?

I'm still curious about the specific model. I have an RM08G and don't notice anything like this.

The auto adjustable models can have the auto adjust turned off and brightness can be set manually...which model do you have OP

How do you do that? The RM01 and RM02 have no buttons or controls for illumination. So, how do you adjust the brightness other than relying on ambient light?

The RM08 is one of the fiber-optic/tritium models, right? It doesn't have any light sensors and I wouldn't expect any level of muzzle flash to affect the dot brightness.

He has it backwards. The manual adjustment models can be put in auto-adjust mode.

The RM08 is indeed the dual source illuminated version. Check it out:

It could be affected by the flash because the dot brightness is controlled by the ambient light. That whiteish strip over the top is the same as a fiber optic collector. However, the muzzle flash is so quick, no shooter would notice the dot brightness changing. It would get brighter and then dim back down in a millisecond.

The auto adjusting LED version would react too slowly to change because of muzzle flash. The flash is just too short. That's why I think a call to Trijicon is necessary in this case. There may be something wrong internally. The brightness could be changing due to some electronic failure under recoil.

My problem sight is a Trijicon RMR01 self adjusting LED. The gun is a M&P PC Ported 9mm.

The flash from, I assume the ported barrel is effecting the sight by making it think the ambient light is suddenly bright causing the sight to brighten the dot. The bright dot takes between 5 & 10 seconds to return to normal size.

This is all happening in an indoor range that is fairly dim lighting.

I sent the sight back to Trijicon. I will respond when I hear from them.
